First appt today and a question
I had my first appt today and everything looks great. Baby is a good size and good hr. But due to a scheduling mix up ( they only had me down for blood work) I didn't see the dr, only the nurse and sono tech.
I had wanted to ask about maternit21 etc but I forgot in all the confusion. Should I call back about it? My next appt is not until the nt scan. Is there an advantage to these early blood tests? I'm 38 by the way.

Re: First appt today and a question
How many weeks are you? My doctor said the results for tests like maternit21 are most accurate after 10 weeks. So if you're not going to be seen again until 12 weeks I would call back and ask for a script for the test. Its non-invasive and I've heard that its more accurate then the nt testing. You can also find out the gender if you would like to know. I think most insurance companies cover it now if you're over 35 but you can ask about that when you call back.
Congrats btw!

If you're 38 your insurance will likely cover it. The test is done most accurately around 10w, so yes, call and ask. They should refer you to a genetics counselor.

yes you should absolutely call and make sure its something they are offering you. I had my BW done the same day as the scan. But you can have it done as early as like 9w i think

Yep, as everyone else said, you should definitely call about it. I had my Maternit21 done at 11 weeks and NT scan done at 12 weeks.

Re: First appt today and a question
Are these tests "better" than the NT scan? Sorry, I don't know a lot about them!

I think my doctor explained that the NT scan detects abnormalities at a 85% confidence rate while the Maternit21 provides a 98% confidence rate. I'm 35 and had both -- that's just now my doctor did it.

Re: First appt today and a question
Thanks. I will definitely ask her about it when she calls with my bloodwork next week. She's kind of old school, so I won't be surprised if she doesn't do them.
