First Birthday party at HOME suggestions
We want to make a party, but we want to watch costs b/c we know DD will never remember this and we also know that probably next year she may have her own input as to what she may want and we'll do it somewhere else.
I could use suggestions but here are some "issues":
Small house (ranch with basement, but basement has den/TV)
Tiny propery: 40x100 total, but in the dead center of the yard is a built in grill that take up a lot of space and obviously cannot be moved.
We were thinking to invite friends with small kids and family... do you invite anyone else? How do you entertain the 1-2 pre-teens that may or may not come. Do you even worry about the adults/pre-teens or just focus on the little one's? What types of things can you do with them? How do you keep your DH's attention span on the tasks at hand with the little kids instead of letting him drift into schmoozing with all the adult friends/family he hasn't seen in a while ? The last was funny, but suggestions as to what we can do to make this fun, but cost effective would be great. We are planning to keep it outside, but if it rains we'll be stuck in my tiny house. I originally wanted to get a park permit and have her party at a park, but I was concerned about rain. We are looking at a mid-May Saturday afternoon.
TIA!!!

Re: First Birthday party at HOME suggestions
We had DD first b-day party last May, at home. We just invited immediate family. We had it outside (thankfully the weather held up) but really didn't care if it didn't since it was just family. It was more about celebrating the day - we didn't have any "activities" - it was just a backyard BB-Q kind of party. Everyone had a good time & DD will never remember it!

I'm thinking something casual, but I do want friends too, my IL's can be much to handle - but if there's a bigger group they'll fall into the background. I'm thinking closer friends with their kids and there's another little girl at daycare who's mom is so nice, thought inviting them may be a nice olive branch. I guess maybe we don't need the "structured" activities I was thinking at this point, as long as it's safe for all the kids. They can play together I guess - that'll be they're entertainment. I liked the park idea b/c they can go on swings and the school aged have the other play ground activities. Just if it rains, we'd be SOL I think.
