first fever...what do i do?

first fever...what do i do?
ds has his first fever tonight (he is 9 mos). 101.9 rectal.
i gave him tylenol.
is there anything else i should do???
since this is his first fever i have no idea what i should be doing for him?????

Has your doc told you that you can use motrin? I don't remember the age that my doctor said it was OK to start using it.
However, what we do for fevers is give tylenol first retest in about an hour and if it hasn't moved I give motrin also.
You can give both, just motrin every 6 hours and tylenol every 4.

i gave him a warm bath and then retested him and now his fever is 102! im not sure if it was bc of the bath though so i will test it again when he wakes up (he just fell asleep).
i just had the tylenol in his room so i gave him that.
you can give the tylenol and motrin together?
should i call his dr tomorrow if he still has a fever?
ETA: dr said it was OK to use motrin when i asked him a couple months ago...

You should go back and forth between Tylenol and Motrin. If the fever doesn't go down after 3 hours, go ahead and give the Motrin. You can switch between the two every three hours if you need.

try to relax yourself...a fever under 103 is actually helping him build his immune system. I try not to medicate unless they are uncomfortable or it gets to the 102.5+ area.
