First IUI today - UPDATED
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to give an update on my first IUI today.
I got the surge Monday morning (CD 24), then I checked Monday afternoon also because I wanted to make sure the smiley face sticks had the same result as my CBE Fertility monitor. I also got the egg symbol on the CBE monitor this morning too.
Went in for our first IUI this morning. It was definitely a strange experience... It felt really surreal for us, especially when the lady at the desk asked "have you ever been inseminated before?". Anyway, DH provided his sample, then we had to wait the two hours until the sample was prepared. My appointment was for 9:30am and I was called into the room around 10:15am. I go to NSU Center for Human Reproduction and they call your name and you have to go across the hall to pick up your sample, then carry it back through the waiting room to go back to the exam rooms.
We were a little depressed about the analysis - the count was only 3 million (we were expecting between 5-10), but at least the motility was good, 86%.
The procedure itself only took a few minutes, and was relatively painless. Definitely uncomfortable, but not horrible. But why oh why do they not warm up the speculum!?!?
Anyway, now it's all about the wait...
Just thought I would share this process since I know that I find these summaries to be really helpful when I'm scrolling through the posts!!
Update on Monday March 1, 2010:
the wait is over... AF arrived yesterday, 13dpo/12dpiui. Looks like we'll be doing another round this month
I hope all the other 2ww ladies had better luck!!!

Re: First IUI today
I totally forgot to ask my question:
Has anyone had experience with getting the second surge on the morning of the IUI and then the egg already being released? My doc usually does two IUIs two days in a row, but only if he can still see the egg.
My sono didn't show the egg, so he said it must have already started travelling (obviously i'm paraphrasing here!). I was a little concerned because I wasn't sure why I would have still 'surged' this morning if the egg wasn't there??

The exact same thing happened with me. I got my "smiley OPK" on saturday morning and Sat evening. I was told to come in sunday morning for my IUI. I also tested sunday morning and still had my Smiley. I got to the RE (I also went to the Center for Human Reproduction) and they did a quick sono and he advised me he no longer saw the egg, that I must have released it already. We did the IUI anyway of course, then BD'd the next 2 days
It worked that first try!! Now i'm due anyday now

Re: First IUI today
I also went to NSUH and had two IUI performed there. The first was a disappointing BUST. We took a month off before doing round #2 in October. The seceond round was a success and now I am 20 weeks prego with twins . I was very pleased with my experience there. I guess it could be a little uncomfortable in the waiting room but, we are all there for the same reason- to be parents, we share the same feelings, so remind yourself of that fact and maybe you won't feel so uncomfortable. If you have Dr Rosenfeld, you'll be very happy with him. His motto was "slow and steady wins the race"- so true. Keep the faith and I wish you well.
