First RE appt today and I have some questions
So I had my first appt today with Dr Kreiner and LI IVF. I'm feeling rather overwhelmed and slightly confused. I plan on talking to him again, but in the meantime just thought I'd see what you girls had to say.
Here's my backstory, I have a DS already, conceived naturally our first month trying. He was delivered via c-section. I've had 2 chemicals this year trying for number 2. My OB blood tests during my chemicals showed low progesterone.
So Dr Kreiner wants to do Day 3 bloodwork, which I'm totally fine with. But he also wants to do an SHG (the water thingy) and an endometrial biopsy.
My question is, considering my OB found the low progesterone, would you go ahead with those other tests right away, or would you wait and see if the blood test picks up anything amiss? I guess I'm just wondering if I should put myself through those tests if I have a hormonal issue? But then again, I guess we need to rule out anything else? And I'm also not sure if he'll do any treatments with just blood test results (which I need to ask him)?
Any advice or has anyone been in a similar situation?

Re: First RE appt today and I have some questions
So a few things -
CD3 blood work will tell you some things about your hormones, but will not diagnose low progesterone. You'll have to have blood taken after ovulation to check your p level. You might want to ask for full blood workup before you undergo any of the move invasive tests.
That being said, in my opinion, you should probably have the saline sono (SHG) either way since that gives your dr a clear picture of your uterus and can show other abnormalities, such as fibroids. It's pretty painless and takes just a few minutes.
I personally never had an endometrial biopsy, despite having gone through both IUIs and IVF. In my RE's practice, they don't do that unless they suspect something in wrong with your lining due to results from other tests.

ITA with the pp. Also want to add I have had 2 endo biopsies and while there is a bit of pain it lasts all of 3 seconds. By the time you realize it hurts, it's over. GL!

My saline sono was very uncomfy...but I also had uterine adheasions which they were trying to break up... never had an EB but was thining about having...
D3 blood work is what I would do as well as the saline sono and possibly an HSG...
If you P4 is high, could be the reason your not getting pregnant and if its low probably the reason why its not sticking.
Best of luck with whatever you decide, in the end no matter what you do it is well worth every pain cramp and grope :)

Re: First RE appt today and I have some questions
Thanks so much girls. I think for now I'm just going to to the D3 bloodwork b/c based on my cycle the SHG would end up being around Christmas. I just don't want to deal with that right around the holiday. So I will probably schedule that for Jan. I'm just really really nervous about it.

It's 2 seconds and you don't feel a thing. At least I didn't .... I actually didn't know the doctor even did anything until he told me it was over!

Don't be nervous... this test is so standard in the world of IF testing. CD3 bloodwork is standard, and you will have many rounds of bloodwork along the way to track your hormonal progress, ups and downs, etc.
Schedule the saline for when you're comfortable, and I'd suggest doing a forum search for that topic... SOooo many of us have had one, and there are detailed posts describing what to expect and what to ask so that there are no surprises. Good luck!

The saline sono was a breeze and very fast. I have no pain tolerance whatsoever, and the saline sono didn't even make me flinch. That's not a test I'd put off due to fear of discomfort.

First RE appt today and I have some questions
Ive had a hysterosalpingogram and the endo biposy. I am a big baby and i have ZERO pain tollerance! I was petrified going into these tests, but I tolerated both procedures well. Of course it was a lil uncomfortable but not excrutiating pain at all; a little crampy. Both procedures are quick. The biopsy was the quickest; less than 5 minutes :)
Just an opinion, but I say go for the tests. There may be another issue you aren't aware of.
Best of Luck to you!!!!!!!
