First Tri screening for Downs?
My doctor said this was optional. I was wondering how many of you did this test.?
The results will only allow me to educate myself if something is found. I have to make my decision b/c the doctor said there is only a two week window to do it.
TIA

I did it- it wasn't an option for me. I would recommend it because it's simple and you can learn in advance if there is any further testing you want/need to do.

Re: First Tri screening for Downs?
You mean the two rounds of blood tests? We did this. The first round of blood for the Downs testing was at 11 weeks I think and then I just did the second round at 16 weeks. We get the full results next week.

I didn't do it, but only because I missed the window. I'm not upset with myself for missing it though cause it wouldn't have changed the outcome of this pregnancy either way...know what I mean??

exactly. No matter what is found it won't change the outcome, but maybe it would be better to know there is a possiblity prior to prepare myself and educate myself.
I wish I wasn't given the option or told about it. I think too much into things!

Re: First Tri screening for Downs?
I was never told it was optional so I did it. Either way, it didn't matter to DH & I since if anything was found, it would give us time to research & prepare ourselves...Fortunately our baby is very healthy & very low risk for Downs.

Re: First Tri screening for Downs?
We did it - I am a worrier by nature and I think not knowing my risk level would have made me more nervous in the long run. Granted, I was fairly confident we'd have good results (which we did), but I still think it was worth it. I can see why some people would opt out though. It was odd, my doctor never really made it sound like it was an option - she just talked about it as if we would definitely do it. I suppose if I had questioned it, she would have talked about it with me. But I did find that a bit strange...

Re: First Tri screening for Downs?
I did the sequential screening, which is a little more reliable, with less false positives. It involves a blood draw and ultrasound in the 1st trimester, and then another round of blood testing at 16 weeks - taken together they give you a fairly accurate picture.

This is what my new OB office does. With DS, it was the "older" version of the test.
