Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
Sophia has a flat head. Every time I take her to the Ped they brush it off. They say something to the affect of "It's not THAT bad, just try to keep her off ot it">
I feel like it IS that bad. Am I just crazy??? Her head is such an odd shape. From the front it looks normal, but from the sides/back its all types of weird. And to make me even more neurotic about it she has a peanut skull to begin with, measuring only 25th% which makes me worry her head's not growing right.
For any moms who have dealt with this, does it look "THAT bad"?

WOW...My son has the same shaped head in the back. SO far the doctors aren't concerned. He is 16 weeks old. DS has a rather large head though...

Does she lay on her back a lot?
My son has a big round noggin' but my friend's DD had a flat head and the doctor said not to lay her on her back that much and it really seemed to help it.

Sophia will be 5 months tomorrow. She LOATHES tummytime which is another source of stress with all of this. But as you can prob tell from the first pic she holds her head up great, and pushes up on her hands. I think she's just lazy Wonder who she gets that from
Does you LO do well with tummytime?

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
I don't even notice it. One of my sons had a flat head and it was noticeable to the naked eye. They just had a PT show us some moves to work with him. He never needed the helmet and today at 3 you cannot see it. I just constantly would reposition his head while napping and sleeping. And I worked on his neck muscles as well.

Well - she sleeps on the back of her head at night, she REFUSES to turn her head to the side while sleeping. If I turn it once she's out, she'll fuss and turn it back. She's at daycare for the most part during the week, so I cant be sure that they dont have her on her back a lot. Im going to have to talk to them tomorrow (im home with her today). When shes home I try to keep her off of it. If im not holding her I try to keep her in the exersaucer. She does LOOOOVE her bouncy tho

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
My dd has a flat left side and the peds said is wasn't so bad either...it's hard to tell from the pics if her head is similar...but they said to put her in the exersaucer and that it looks like her head will correct itself without a helmut...I am sure if it was really bad they would tell you!
ETA: she just had her 4 month appt today.

DD has a flat head..not as pronounced but its there. I think that its from her laying on her back. We are going to ask the pediatrician at her 4 month appointment

I don't think it's that bad. My DS had a flat head when he was very small and we tried out best to give him tummy time (which he hated) and have him sit up as much as possible. His head rounded out as he got bigger. Don't worry!

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
first of all i want to shake her and squeeze her until there is nothing left
also, the second pic looks worse than it is b/c of her hair poof Just tell her to grow some hair back there already and you wont notice it
we have the same head val, jack is destined to be the same also. She is perfect, dont stress it!! She is developing normally

i know what you mean, ive felt it. has the PED "felt" it?! Or have they only looked at it? If it really concerns you, make an appointment with a ped neuro you are the mama. do what YOU think is best! if it will put your mind at ease, do it! No harm! Just a copay!

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
she's so cute.
I know you said she hates tummy time - maybe sit her in the bumbo or exersaucer instead of putting her on her back at any time during the day. Will she sleep on her side?
I'm sorry, no BTDT advice. DS is the opposite - doesn't like to be on his back at all!

My DDs head was pretty bad too IMO and it rounded out perfectly around 6 months. Just try to do more tummy time.

ds has it.....you can "Try" the noggin nest for when she's resting.....i looked into the more expensive ones- but they seemed to have some mixed reviews....he still has a little bit, but its alot better then the total flatness we were dealing with before...

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
My DD's head is pretty similar, and it too feels weird when I rub my hands on it. My ped also brushes it off as no big deal and just keeps telling me to put her on her belly more. My DD is 9 months and they keep telling me it will round out.

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
My DD had apretty flat had that I was very stressed about, but no one else was! She also hated tummy time, but when she hit 4 months, we started puting her in teh exersaucer and jumperoo and I got the Boppy Noggin Nest for the car seat. Now at almost a year, her head is perfect! It is good that you are realizing the signs of it now so you can corrct it. Honestly, though, my DD's head was worse than your DD's.

He did OK with tummy time when he was younger. Now he doesn't like it so much. I think his head is to big for him to hold up for a long time...

Re: Flat Head (with pics) Need advice from BTDT moms
My son had a large flat spot on the back/side of his head that I was very concerned about. The ped. sent us to a pediatric neurosurgeon (more b/c my son's head measured very large-off the charts!) The ped. neuro said that the flat spot was nothing to be concerned about, it had to be extremely severe for them to use one of those corrective helmets. He said once the baby starts moving around more it will start to round itself out and that is exactly what has happened. I think it is still very slightly flat but you cant tell by looking at it-his hair masks the small flat spot. I guess he won't even know about it till he's an old bald man! Oh and the size of his head wasn't a problem either, apparently my husband and I have huge heads too-it runs in the family!
