flu shot
Hey ladies. So the news and everything I read has been preaching about flu shots for women who are or want to be pregnant...so I set out to get a flu shot. Well it was harder than I thought! My doctor was only giving the kind with the Mercury...so I called my OBGYN and they said that I should get the one w/out mercury but they were only giving it to women who were already pregnant...so what was I to do? Well my MIL told me Walgreens was giving out shots...and it turns out they offer both kinds! $25 for regular $29.99 for mercury free! So I figured my copay would be $25 anyway so I got the shot Now I am all set...
Still not sure about the swine flu shot...so new I don't like the idea of it so I'll stick with this for now. Just thought you'd like to know

getting my mercury free one in October.
It's a little too soon to get the flu shot. It has to last the whole flu season!

Re: flu shot
Hmm...I didn't know there was one with mercury. I get the flu shot for free at work every year, and I'd really prefer not to tell the RN who gives the shot that we are TTC (or who knows....by then i may actually be preggo). What would you do? Do you think it is bad to get it if i am just TTC? If i am in fact PG by then, then I will just go to my provate doc.
I guess I could just tell her I got it already, and then go to my doctor to get the mercury free one. But I really do not have a lot of free time on my hands, so it is not that easy. WWYD?

Not too soon...this is from the CDC
When to Get Vaccinated Yearly flu vaccination should begin in September or as soon as vaccine is available and continue throughout the influenza season, into December, January, and beyond. This is because the timing and duration of influenza seasons vary. While influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October, most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later.
Plus I hope to get pg this month so I don't want to take it when I am actually pregnant...just a personal thing..

Re: flu shot
My doc won't give it to me until at least Oct. He says right now there isn't a lot of flu going around and it has to last throughout the whole flu season.
He mentioned in the medical community it's not pushed early.

Re: flu shot
Thank you for this! I've been trying to track down the non-mercury vaccine. I can't seem to get an answer from the nurses at my school. Since I'm in graduate school, I'm able to get it there because I have a son, yet I'm worried to get it there when apparently they don't know whats going on lol. So I think I may just head to Walgreens!

I was very impressed with them. They took me right away and showed me that the mercury free was separate from the other shots they were giving...and it was pretty cheap too Don't wait too long to go though. Their website says once they are out they are out...and i hear doctors are having trouble getting more

Re: flu shot
Hi Girls!!!
So my job is being vaccine rep and we carry the Flu vaccine - preservative free as well as all pediatric vaccines.
I would recommend getting your seasonal flu & the recommendations are as soon as it became available- Doctors were to start giving.
As well, every manufacturer is sold out of ADult flu right now. There is an increased demand this yr so your offices may run out quickly and there is no longer any doses left for them to buy.
Any other questions--- Send me and email.... ( since it's my job I feel more confortable via email).
So for my girls on TTC after miscarriage- any questions on flu vaccine, h1n1, or pediatric vaccines ( when u all get your BFP!!!! yay) feel free to ask any questions

Re: flu shot
Wow, you're an awesome resource Rachel! I am not sure what I am going to do about a flu vaccine though. I have never gotten one before, and I know it only protects against some strains of flu, so I don't know...
