Flu shot?

So my job is pretty much making the flu shot mandatory. I do not believe in getting this shot. I got really sick from getting it a few years ago. So my options are going against what I believe and wearing a mask the whole of flu season or sucking it up & getting it. WWYD?

Flu shot?

What do you do that they are making you get it? How does a co makes you get one? Sounds crazy to me. I haven't gotten one in over 15 years and would keep to my beliefs regardless of what some job may want. The only thing I'm thinking of is if I was a dr/nurse in a hospital.

Flu shot?

What are the repercussions at work if you fight it? I used to be really against it, but I have to have it each year as well (military). I was really pissed about it, until I realized that I used to get really sick at least once a year, and i haven't gotten sick since I've had to get it, so I've shut up. However I still totally understand people not wanting to get it, so if you are able to not get it don't, just pray that you don't actually get the flu or your job may not be as nice next year.

The department of health is requiring flu shots for everyone in the healthcare setting this year. If they do not get a shot then the person has to wear a mask all of flu season.

I didn't know it was the dept of health requiring everyone to had the flu shot. I work in a hospital. The only way around not getting it is wearing a mask the whole of flu season. It is instant dismissal if you don't wear your mask.

Yes across the board in all settings. I'm in homecare and if I make a home visit without having the shot i must wear a mask.

Like op I refuse the shot. I had a patient that got Guillain Barre after the shot (life threatening paralysis that many do not completely recover from). To me, i'd rather get the flu. If I worked in a hospital i'd stick to my guns and wear the mask.

I thought of this thread today. We had our mask inservice. They asked us to put the mask on during the inservice so we'd see how uncomfortable it is even for 10 min. I agree its pretty uncomfortable, but i'll still wear it over the shot.

Some of the nurses even commented "theyre basically forcing us to take the shot". Well some people cannot take the shot due to allergies. So they have to wear it too.

Re: Flu shot?

I am going to have to make a decision very soon as to what I'm going to do. I do not want to put this stuff in my body. I'm very much my body, my choice kinda person. Its very frustrating.

I'm the same way about my body.

Well try to look at it this way, the mask or possible Guillain-Barre? That's how I see it!

Re: Flu shot?

So I wore a mask for a few hours to see if I could handle it & I was miserable. It can be hot in my dept especially when you are moving around fast. I think I'm going to have to get the shot. :(

So i had to tell my boss today that i'm refusing the shot & sign paperwork etc...she looked like i just told her someone died.

She said ok, I signed the paperwork, then she asked me if i've ever had the flu (was she going to try to convince me to take it if I had? hmmm)...I said yes 17 years ago. End of conversation.

Re: Flu shot?

Good for you! I got my shot last week & thankfully I feel fine. I had a cold the week before & sinus issues so I have nervous.
