We moved away from our family almost 7 years ago. since i've had my daughter and now having #2, it's been much more difficult not haivng them around when I really need help, like lately. however there are a lot of benifits to it, impo. Good luck and if you need anything let me know.

Re: for all who have moved oos
I moved OOS, also for DH's job, in the early stages of pg. It has been so much easier than I expected. I have a feeling I won't be saying the same thing after the baby comes. My situation is different though: my parents and sister already lived OOS (in FL and Mass.) so I was used to being away from them, but we had lots of close friends and we were close to DH's family there. In the long run we had to do what is right for us and our growing family and so far, this move is definitely the right thing. We are really happy that we did it. It isn't easy, but we are so much better off financially and it's nice that we get to spend so much quality time with each other. People are so nice here too (in Chicago) and we have started meeting new people. It's a fun adventure too - exploring a new place.
Good luck!!

Re: for all who have moved oos
We also had to consider the possibility of moving oos a while back for DH's job, lucky we didn't have to. We both would have done it if we had to. But we both did not want to move at all. Most of our families are either on LI, Upstate NY or in NJ, so we are all very close and see everyone all the time.
Since we haven't moved, the only advice I can give is the, over the past few years a lot of our newly married friends have moved oos. Most of them, although it was a BIG change at first, really love it now, much cheaper taxes, bigger houses for half of what we pay her on LI etc.
However, I have to say DH's cousin who moved to FL. about a year ago is having a tough time with it. She and DH have a 2 month old baby, and she is very home sick.
I really think moving is harder when you have a baby, because you are really looking for help and support from your close family members and friends at this point. You said that you are close to you family, so doubt you are like her and very use to having them right there.
If I were you, if at all possible I would really try to push it off till at least after you have the baby. At 6 months preggo, a move to a new state might be a lot of stress. Maybe if your DH's job says he has to go right away, you could get your Dr. to explain that you are too far along for a move? (Really not sure if that is possible though.)
If you do have to move before the baby is born here. Perhaps close family can take turns coming down for week long stays to help you and DH settled in? Especially after you have the baby, it would probably be great to have close family there for help and I'm sure you and DH would welcome it.
I really think that if we moved, it would help me so much to have my mom or someone close come to stay for a bit. DH's Uncle and Aunt did this for his cousin, and I think it helped her to settle in more, however as I said it is still hard for her, moving oos is a big change.
Make sure that before you move, you and DH, both get all of your pros and cons out to each other. He might be really nervous too, especially for leaving family and just not saying anything to you. Make sure DH and you are on the same page. If you are really againts moving let him know, you really don't want to be forced into a move that you want no part of. You two have to remember that for moving to a state where you have no family or friends yet, you will be all each other has, so you need to know that this is right for everyone involved.
Everyone is different though, so hopefully it will work out really good for you and DH and the new baby to be. Good luck with what ever happens!
One thing, How come you said it would do your immediate family good if you move oos? I'm sure that they would miss you a lot!!

Re: for all who have moved oos
I moved from FL to NY when I was 6 mths pregnant. It was really hard making sure I didn't over work myself packing or lifting and I got tired very easily.
The one thing I remember is we had to stop ALOT on the drive to NY because my legs kept cramping up and I had to pee all the time.
It was worth the move though!
Just take it easy and hang in there!

Re: for all who have moved oos
I moved from NY to NC at 13 weeks. Right away I found a practice that i liked and scoped out area hospitals to chose mine. It gave me peace of mind.
it was so sad to watch DH unload truck himself, but I wasn't risking a thing.
good luck!

Re: for all who have moved oos
We are moving to Georgia in November. My husband is transferring too and we have NO ONE down there. It is scary but I have faith that everything will work out and it will be the best for the family too. We are looking 30 minutes outside of the city too.
I think if you have a positive attitude about it ( and it sounds like you do) that everything will be fine. There is a solution for everything.
Okay now I sound really cheesy.

We are flying down at the end of September to buy a house and find our town. We are thinking Alpharetta right now but are open to other options. My husband is working right by the Perimeter Mall. Feel free to throw some towns our way.
Congrats on your pregnancy by the way. You must be so excited!!

Re: for all who have moved oos
I moved to Charlotte 2 years ago. I am now 11 weeks pregnant. It was hard in the beginning being so far away from my family (we are all really close)
Now that I am having a baby, I wish my sister lived closer to me even more but we make it work. My mom wound up moving to GA like a year ago so she is only 4 hours away now
