I lived out of new york for about 10 years, then came back. The things I missed the most (in no particular order) were:
Family
Friends
NY City (I lived in a city, but just not the same)
LI in the summer - all of it, the beach, the parks, cruising around at night, etc.
Pizza
BAGLES
24 hour restaurants, like diners
staying out past 1 AM if I wanted to
Fall foiliage
Being able to get most places on public transportation if I wanted to

I would totally miss NYC...the restaurants, broadway, christmas time in NYC,museums etc..
I would also miss summer in the hamptons.
But most of all I would miss my FAMILY!!!

Of course family...but I think I would miss everything being so convenient. If we want the beach, the city, upstate, wineries or skiing...it's all close to us.

I would miss my family the most. As far as the food, I havent found a problem with it in other states Ive been in so that doesnt matter to me, the city itself we never really go in anyway, Christmas in the city- can always come up for a visit and Im sure where you live will have christmas stuff too. The beach- where we go we will be near it so wont miss that. Dont like bagels, I know Im weird there is something in them that makes me nauseaus and I had pizza in florida that was awesome so I think there is potential for other states to have good pizza especially since so many new yorkers are going south including business'.
what I wont miss, the traffic, the competiveness, the rudeness, homes so close together, constent stress of living on long island, that I never see DH b/c he works his butt off, weather.
I am def looking into going myself, Maryland or VA by the water.

Def. the city- shopping, restaurants and all of the unique neighborhoods that make this place so unique
Of course the people- its so weird but when I travel I seek out the New Yorkers everywhere I go.
I found the we are so much more genuine

This is sooooo true!!! all of London closes down by 6pm on Sunday and a lot of stores aren't open at all. It's sooo frustrating!
There are particular STREETS in Manhattan that I miss 
Friends
Family
Being able to stick up my arm and hail a cab
Pizza
living above a supermarket - so convenient! :)
Delis that make what you want when you want it
going to cozy bars on cold winter nights
The beach
the sun
the snow
I could go on!!!!!
