For EBF moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
My DD is only 5 weeks old, and the most she'll sleep is 5 hrs (RARELY). I am told that its because she is breastfed. Is it true that if you breastfeed they won't sleep through the night??? I wanted to EBF for 6 months but does that mean she won't sleep through the night?
Anyone out there that breastfeeds and the DC sleeps?

No, she does not sleep. Even when we started solids, she does not sleep. I think my daughter feels more comfortable having a mommy who looks like a zombie.....

Do you pump? I exclusively pump, but we found giving her a larger bottle at night, and she sleeps a good 9-10 hours.

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
i nurse, give bottles of breastmilk, and give bottles of formula. i've found that it doesn't matter which i do at bedtime, his sleep is the same. the whole idea that formula makes them sleep longer is a myth, in my opinion.
ds is 12 weeks. he'll sleep anywhere from 5-8 hours at a time without waking up. problem is, his longest stretch starts at like 5-6pm!! so he still wakes up when we're sleeping... but i guess ya gotta start somewhere!

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
DD has been sleeping through the night since about 8 weeks. She seems to tanks up in the evening and we put her down about 8:30 (she's been stretching it until 9pm since going into the crib). We give her 2 oz. of formula sometimes as a top off and she's out.
Don't worry, there's hope!

the last feeding I usually breastfeed, and than try to feed her an extra ounce of breastmilk from a bottle. That is when she sometimes goes 5 hrs. But no longer

dd is only 7 weeks but I am starting to get longer stretches (anywhere from 5-7 hrs-that was just once though)...
My first daughter was EBF, no bottles and was sleeping thru the night around 4 or 5 months I think...

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
My DC all slept through the night at a young age, I'd say around 5-6 weeks. But I co-slept to, so that might be the reason.

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
DD would sleep from between 9 or 10pm until sometime between 4:30 - 7:30 depending on the night - most nights she sleeps until 5-6 - She has been doing this since 5 weeks. She now goes down about 8pm and sleeps until about 5-7am/ She only gets BM and has never gotten formula. So it is definitely possible for them to sleep thru the night.

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
this last week he's been sleeping up to 6 hours, though it can be hit and miss. he usually wakes for a quick snack n back down again. i also swaddle him in the miracle blanket & i think that helps tremendousl b/c he can't wake himself.

My kids are older now, but my first was EBF and slept through the night starting about 3 months old. He's always been a good sleeper.

Re: For EFB moms, does your DC sleep through the night?
My doctor says I need to wake my DD up every 3 hours to feed her since Im breastfeeding....so how is it that everyone's babies are going so long sleeping? My DD is only 3 weeks old....is there a point when you stop waking them up? Sorry to hijack your post--I was just wondering.....

you only need to do that for the first few weeks until they establish that your DD will gain weight. Later, you can let them sleep as long as they like. Honestly, I didn't really follow the dr.'s advice, and always let her sleep as long as she wanted at night only.

I never woke my DD for a feeding. I did do many dreamfeeds though. Maybe you should try that. It's when you don't really "wake" the baby but pick them up and feed them in their dreamy state and then just put them right back down. Often, my DD didn't even open her eyes. As a PP said, my DD used to start her night sleep at 6PM so I would dreamfeed her when I was ready for bed at about 10PM. Then she wouldn't wake up until around 4AM.

Same for us. DD has been sleeping through the night for a little under a month now. Occasionally she'll wake once, but been letting her CIO for about 10 min and she's back down to sleep.

Even on formula, most babies DO NOT sleep through the night at 5 weeks old. But in general, EBF babies wake up more often than babies on formula. DS woke up every 2 hours for the 1st few weeks.
DS was EBF until 4.5 months. He slept through the night once in a while starting at 3.5 months. Then he went back to waking up 1-2 times per night.
At 4.5 months, he was both on formula and BM. Still did not sleep through the night. He really started around 5.5 months to sleep again through the night. Now at 6.5 months he sleeps fairly concistently through the night. We still have those nights when he wakes up.
