? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

I know this was posted a while back, but i can't find the thread.

Exactly, how do they run the show?
How long was it from start to finish? how long until you were in your room? Were you ready for visitors? Did you get the shakes from the epidural?

My first section was at 2 am, i was exhausted and didn't know which way was up! I'm hoping a scheduled will be "better"

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

I was scheduled for 9:15. I arrived at hospital at 7:15. There was a problem in there before me so I did not go in there until 10:30ish. They gave me the epi arounnd then and I almost passed out because my BP dropped but that was it for bad effects and it passed soon after. We waited 20 minutes or so for the other doctor to arrive so my DD was born at 11:16 but it probably would have been sooner if we weren't waiting for him. I got to recovery around 11:45 and got my baby. I had her for about 45 minutes. They make you wait until you can wiggle toes, move legs, and lift knees, before moving you. It took me a looonnnng time. I finally got to my room around 1:50 and they brought my baby right to me. I enjoyed having visitors that day because I still had the epi. The next morning when I got everything taken out and got up and moving I was in a lot of pain and was not thrilled with early visitors. I was trying to recover/move/shower. By that evening I felt better and didn't mind visitors again.

Take the drugs, ask for gas medicine if you need it, and get up and moving as soon as you can. Chat Icon

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

My scheduled c/s birth story is in my profile, but...

My section was scheduled for 3:45pm..ugh (yeah, couldn't eat, drink--even water, or have Tums from 6am)! I was pushed back for about an hour due to emergencies, etc. and my DD was born 5:20pm. Didn't have any shakes, etc. I'm guessing I was in recovery by 6pm?

My parents and sister came to see me in recovery and my ILs came to the hospital with DD#1 to see the baby in the nursery. I was in recovery for quite a while since my temperature was pretty low and I had to wear a heated inflatable blanket to raise it back up. Chat Icon I would say I got into my room around 9:15pm--DD was brought to me and I was able to nurse then. I didn't have any visitors at that late hour, of course.

I'm no fan of the c-section experience, but the scheduled one was MUCH better!

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

With DD we were scheduled for 8:30 am. Things were running on time that morning, no emergencies to bump me out of the way and DD arrived at 9:16AM (only issue was getting that needle in my back Chat Icon )

I did opt for the stitches with my second c/s since I did not react well to the staples with my first. So the closing up part took about an hour. I have to say, my recovery with the second was much, much easier.

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

My c-section was scheduled for 8 AM. We got to the hospital at 6. They hooked me up to the monitors, set up the catheter and I was in the OR precisely at 8.

They gave me the epi in OR, let DH in and started the section.

DS was born at 8:37. I was wheeled to recovery where i stayed for 1 1/2 hours. I definitely had the shakes and was shivering the whole time.

Then I was wheeled to my room.

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

I was scheduled for 11 am...got to the hospital at 9 and was hooked up to fetal monitor / IV...

I didn't get into the OR until about 12:15 since my Doc had an emergency c-section come in...

DD was born at 1:16pm...between close up / recovery, I was in my room about 5pm...

i didn't get the shakes, but I got very nauseous from the anesthesia...

Catheter was in till 6am next morning...Up and walking around by 7am (but slooooooowly)...I had stiches inside and staples...no problem while they were in, but they stung coming out...

Went in on Thursday, came home Monday.

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

I was scheduled at 8:00am, went into the OR at 8:30am. DD was born at 9:02am.
I didn't get the shakes, however I did get very itchy. just a side effect from the spinal. I got stiches instead of staples.
I was up and out of the bed to the chair by 5 or 6p that night. Next morning they took the foley out and I walked to the bathroom, SLOWLY. It felt good to sit up and have a pillow under my butt and behind my back.

Good luck!

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

I was scheduled for 7:30AM as I have a latex allergy and needed to be the first one of the day. Lucky me!

We arrived at 6AM and were brought to a room where I changed and they hooked up an IV line and asked me a bunch of questions. The anesthesiologist came in and we went over what would happen. They also had DH put on the overalls. He looked like a painter.

At 7:15, one of my doctors (love her!) walked me into the OR. She held my hands as the anesthesiologist did the spinal. After that, DH came in and they finished prepping me.

They started the section a little after 7:30 and DS came out at 7:56. They cleaned him up and brought him over to me. I was experiencing bad nausea so the anesth. kept injecting me with something which helped me feel better.

I was sewn up and in recovery by 8:30 or so. We had DS with us for a few minutes and then they took him to do what they needed to do.

I was in my room by 9:30 and hooked up to a demerol pump (I'm allergic to morphine which is what they usually use for pain).

I got up for the first time that evening, which was painful. I sat in a chair the next morning, then was up and able to take a shower.

I had visitors from the first day DS was born.

I ended up going home on Friday because I was miserable in the hospital. DS was born on a Wednesday.

Re: ? for ladies who had a scheduled c-section

My C-section was scheduled for 9am. We got to the hospital about 8:10am (we were supposed to be there at 8am) and then the woman in admitting took forever so I didn't end up getting to a room until 8:30am. They had to put two bags of fluid in me before they could to the epidural so I didn't go into surgery until about 9:20am. DD was born at 9:42am and I was out of surgery by 10am. I was in recovery for about an hour then I was brought to my room.

I actually felt really good after my c section the only thing was I was itchy. I was in my room by 11:30am and my family came up to visit at the 2 o'clock visiting hours.

I didn't get the shakes I was just itchy.
