For mommies of more than 1: reusing your 1st DC's clothes for the other baby

So far I saved DS' clothes in case we have another one and it would be a boy.

Now I feel funny about it.

Would I want DC #2 to have the "leftovers" from DC#1?

What if they see the pics years later and see they have the same clothes. DC# 2 always wearing leftovers from DC# 1.

I was also picking the clothes thinking about DC#1. So I would just give DC#2 clothes that was not "meant" for him.

I know it sounds crazy but I think of things like that.

Anybody else feels like this?

Kinda feel that way, but dd has soo many cloths that its a shame to just get rid of, shes only wore some of the stuff once. The cloths are sooo cute, and i get sentimental. So im packing up in rubbermaid container and going to use if we have another girl.. I know i will still buy #2 girl more cloths so not worried about it.

Nope. I am excited to see them on a little baby again. I loved all of Andrew's clothes and they are in great condition. For me it would be a total waste of money that I don't have to buy all new clothes.

Chelsea wears hand me downs. In fact she is in her brothers blue outfit right nowChat Icon I see nothing wrong with it. But this is my second DD and even though we had a daughter that was only 1 year older everyone still buys her clothes. While she does wear some old clothes she will still have some that are just hers. Funny thing is I have a few favorites that I love too see all my kids inChat Icon

I saved and reused all the clothes from DD#1 with DD#2 and I am so happy to not have to buy a new wardrobe. However even with all the hand me downs, DD#2 still has lots of new cloths just for her. I would save them, they will come in handy

I have all Julia's clothes saved and some of them still have tags on them-lol

If I have a girl she will be wearing a lot of the clothes Julia did, they are in such good condition it would be a waste not to, plus it would be cute to see the new baby in the same clothes her sister wore. Chat Icon

I saved DS clothing. I hope #2 will be able to use them. Some of the outfits are brand new or even worn only once. It would be a shame to get rid of them plus I look forward to seeing #2 in them. Chat Icon

For everyday stuff it didn't bother me. We had quite a bit of gender netural stuff in infant sizes since we didn't find out ahead of time, so I have pics of Sarah and Andy in the same stuff. It's sometimes fun to look at the pics and compare them.

If I had two boys or two girls I would get them new stuff for holidays, birthdays, etc.

I don't feel that way at all. It is so conveient for me to be able to use the clothes twice. I am so happy that I can. I am sure I will pick new things up along the way but on an average day she'll be wearing her older sisters clothes.

DD wears several of DS's outfits. Especially for the first few months, and a lot of stuff when we're home (or sleeping). It seems silly not to use sleep outfits, onesies, etc that fit DD fine, even though they aren't new.

I completely agree. And Baby # 2 would still get new clothing of his/her own anyway.

We received a lot of hand me downs and bought some new things too. I'm packing them away for #2, if it's also a girl.

For special occasions like holidays and birthdays I'll buy 2nd a new outfits but otherwise it's hand me downs.

If DD was a boy, I would have definitely used DS's old clothes. Some he only wore a few times. I would definitely not feel guilty and I don't honestly think that the kid would look back on pictures and even think to make a comment about wearing the same clothes.

Well, the fact that Cailen never even wore half the clothes before outgrowing them, or only wore them a few times, I am happy that maybe someone else will get to wear them. The really worn out stuff that I love because it reminds me specifically of Cailen I probably won't use again....

I totally agree!

When I packed Chat Icon #1's clothes away I got so sad thinking that another baby may never wear them...but one did...Chat Icon #2!! Now, I feel the same way packing up Abby's clothes!

We reused the non-gender specific clothes as much as we could but I couldn't help but what her in pink.

She does have some jeans & sweatshirts from her brother.

I think that that only becomes an issue when they're older & realize it. Also it becomes an issue for the older one as they recognize their favorite dress/shirt being passed down.

My daughter will look at photos of clothes from when she was under 2 & say "Mommy, I miss that dress." Um...I had to wrestle you into it & than you would scream "off!"Chat Icon

Re: For mommies of more than 1: reusing your 1st DC's clothes for the other baby

As you konw, I only have 1 (for now) but I have saved almost ALL of Troy's clothes. The few items that I was not quite fond of, I passed on to my cousin. Anyhow, I did moemtarily have thoughts of concern about 2nd or 3rd (if the clothes last that long!Chat Icon ) child feeling cheated about not having their "own" clothes. But the majority of Troy's clothes (esp the smaller sizes) were hand me downs to begin with. True, we dont have photos of those kids, but still.

I kinda got over it. I am sure there will be new stuff given/bought when more kids come along.

I bought some new but used a ton of my first sons clothes. I didn't feel bad at all - actually I thought it was cute that and would compare pictures of them and how cute they both looked!

Not me. I love seeing my first son's clothes on my second son. I think my older son get a kick out of me squealing and ooohing and aaahing about how he was so little once. I just brought a big bin of 24 clothes out of the attic and had a nice little trip down memory lane from 4 yrs ago when DS #1 wore them.

ETA: I think it's only an issue when it's something very outdated. My kids are fairly close so its not a common thing but I did have a pair of Gap jeans that were baggy. I do recall putting them on my older one when he was a baby in 2002 but they were already a hand me down from someone whose child is now 10. They were so ridiculous looking I had to ditch them.

This is how I feel-the stuff she wears a lot, that i strongly associate with her I will save just for her. Everything else, I hope to use again.
