Re: For people that have pools?

Mymom's pool did overflow and flooded the basement with the last rain so I am making her take water out. She is a high up in the hospital and has to be at work for at least 24 hours so we don't want to have to worry about her pool while she isn't home.

Re: For people that have pools?

Hmmm- I don't have a basement to flood I am thinking of maybe just letting it overflow into the yard?

Re: For people that have pools?

I don't have a pool...but my question is...if you take some out...doesn't it saturate the ground...so that when we get ALL this rain...where is the water going to go if the ground is already saturated?? Chat Icon

Re: For people that have pools?

we have an inground pool and we've let the water level get low over the last week or so. we set the filter to waste so that the water goes out of the pool instead of recirculating.

From my pool guy:

Take the following steps to prepare your pool for the expected hurricane:

1. Any Baby-Loc or removable child safety fence should always be removed prior to high wind conditions.

2. Always unplug the electrical cord(s) to your pool pump(s) prior to any major rainfall event. Pumps get destroyed if they run while submerged in water.

3. Adding shock and/or boosting a salt system output prior to a major rainfall event will help keep your pool clear.

4. Although not a must, you can lower your water level a few inches prior to the hurricane. If the pool starts to overflow don't panic, it is no different from rain falling on a patio, it will just roll off.

We have an inground with liner. I had DH take out water to almost to the bottom of the skimmer box.

You shouldn't let a liner pool over flow because if the tracking that is keeping the liner in place isn't all the way down, water can get behind the liner and then you have a major problem on your hands.
If it is a gunite pool you are fine.

Ground is already saturated from last week and yesterday, I can't see it making too much of a difference Chat Icon

Re: For people that have pools?

We emptied some out earlier. Ours goes right into a huge buried drum in the yard so it doesn't over-saturate the ground.
