Do people really pee in public pools?
Debating whether to join our town pool this summer, so did a quick search on unsanitary risks of public pools. Pee, and feces, and parasites, oh my!
Am I overthinking it? We are currently TTC.
1 in 5 people admit to peeing in pools
Also from the article: "Consider this fun fact: The average person has about .14 grams of feces on their bottoms!"
How often do you think the typical park pool tests their water?

I think they put enough chlorine in the pool to kill a small elephant. So I wouldn't worry too much, just don't drink it!

I grew up going to a public pool, was a lifeguard at a town pool, on various swim teams (i.e., in and out of many pools at various country clubs and various towns). I'm still alive to talk about it and I'd still swim in a town pool.
Then again, I'm not a big germophobe... Still, when I was a lifeguard (too many years ago), the water was tested daily, the pools cleaned at least once a day, and no one got sick from the water.

Have to do more research on this part:
'Urine—as well as sweat and even sunscreen—contain nitrogen, which eats up a pool’s free chlorine. Free chlorine is what kills waterborne germs that could make you sick if ingested. So if too many people are peeing in the pool or diving in while sweaty, that could mean less chlorine’s available to wipe out nasty critters."

Alright, let's not all jump on the paranoid bandwagon here.......
I asked for information because I'm keeping an open-mind. It's not like I posted that everyone who jumps into a public pool was going to contract a horrible disease.

Honestly, I swim 3 times a week and I've noticed no adverse effects. We are also TTCing.
The pools are maintained and the chemicals are tested.
FYI-I go to the Bethpage pool and the Plainview pool and I never ever ever ever pee in a pool so there are normal humans that just swim. I do wear suncreen though.

OMG- I'd never think of peeing in a pool. but this did remind me of 2 signs a friend of mine had on the gate to her pool growing up:
"welcome to my ool... notice there isn't a p in it, let's keep it that way"
and...
"I don't swim in your toilet, so don't pee in my pool"

I'm sure they do. I don't and my kids don't. My DD gets out and uses the bathroom and she's not even 5 yet. She wouldn't even think to pee in the pool.

I had a issue years ago and every time I went the pool was closed for a while due to something nasty, even vomit!
it got where I never went back.
I thought of the kids swallowing water and how they close it for a while and add whatever to it and reopen it? how is that!!
