Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
I was told to eat something but be finished an hour before the test. Obviously don't eat anything sugary, they suggested toast, eggs or a plain cereal.

As a long-time diabetic, sugary food will spike and dissipate relatively quickly. Toast and cereal will elevate your blood sugar for a longer amount of time.
Stick with proteins (eggs, meat, etc). It won't raise your blood sugar.

Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
I failed both. And fasted for both. My words of wisdom. don't eat anything with carbs or sugars before you take the 1 hour test. For the 3 hour you have to fast. Good Luck!!!

Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
my midwife specifically said to eat. she said it's a tolerance test so eating is fine (as long as it's not a jelly donut right before hand). she told me "the lab will ask you if you ate. even if you have, lie to them and say you fasted. there is no reason to fast but for some reason they can't get that through their heads."
needless to say i ate beforehand.

Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
IMO it doesn't matter what you eat or don't eat. You either have GD or you don't. If you do have it, it would be in yours (and your baby's) best interest to know as GD can cause complications for you and your baby (not always, but it can).

Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
Unfortunately, there is no way to pass if you have it and no way to fail if you don't. if you DO NOT have it, you could suck on 50 lollypops before the test and pass....if you HAVE it, you could fast for 3 days and still fail. It's in your blood - there's no way to get around it..
please follow what your doc says as far as fasting goes - theirs is the ONLY opinion that matters!

Re: For the ladies that Failed there Glucose Test
there is no eating after midnight according to the one i took- only water...
the 1 hour i failed horribly 167- needed 129- followed the doctors- no carbs- no sugar-asked them about salad and they said only with oil/vinegar- ate grilled chicken and zuccini
3 hour- ate a little more "normal"- had chicken quesadilla, and cherios with milk...
i think that when they tell you to eat no carbs your body is too shocked the next morning by the drink..
