Ladies who took/ will take the 3 hour Glucose Test

So unfortunately I failed the 1 hour by 7 points

So now Im wondering, how does the 3 hour work? Did you have to go to the lab for it or did you do it in the doctors office?

My doctor is sending me to the lab just like for the 1 hour and I'm wondering (and fearing) that its like the 1 hour where they make you drink the stuff and then SIT THERE in the waiting room for 3 hours. I would completely go nuts for that long,lol.

Or do you pick up the drink ahead of time and then come back for the blood test??

Any info would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

Unfortunatly, when i took the 3 hour with my DD i had to wait around. It sux. But the reasoning behind it is that they have to test your blood once an hour in that 3 hour time frame. And if its off, even by 15 minutes your test results may be off and they may make you do it again. I know it sux, im not looking foward to doing it again either but its either sit there with a book or a lap top or risk having to do it again.
I'd rather endure the boring 3 hours than having to drink that nasty stuff again

it's done at the lab (i.e. Quest). They take your blood when you get there, then give you the drink. Once you drink it, they will take your blood once per hour for 3 hours. I was not allowed to leave. Just bring plenty of reading material.

Nope you are stuck there for the whole thing. They draw your blood than make you drink - then they draw it again once every hour. It was a real pain - so bring a good book.

Whoa! No wonder they call it the dreaded 3-hour! That sounds like a LONG time to be stuck at the lab. I better start loading up on books now!

Yea, I took it today at my dr's office. I brought my laptop & a book w/ me. It still dragged...

for me - i took it at the OB's office. You cannot leave the premises - you have to stay.

I brought a portable DVD player and watched 1/2 a season of the Office - so i didn't mind it so much honestly...

I felt a HECK of a lot better afterwards than I did for the 1 hour....

I was able to do both the 1 hr (I failed that one) and the 3 hr one at my OB's office. I had to stay there for 3 hours. First they took my blood, made me drink the drink and then every hour they took my blood.

I packed for my 3 hour like I was going on a long flight

Books, magazines, piod, stationary, phone etc. My friend took her portable DVD player and watched a movie!

Be prepared to be sitting there (in the lab) for the whole time. Honestly it went faster than I thought it would.
