Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
I delivered there 2 years ago. I LOVED IT!! I never had a student in my room and everyone gets their own room so your baby can room in with you and so can your DH without paying any extra penny. My DS never went in the nursery. At the time they said they were remodeling and were going to have a whole new wing. You can get a tour of it, we got one. My Dr (who has left NY) had a private practice and she was there the whole day and I never saw anyone but the nurses. You may be able to request no students if you have to use a Dr through through the University. Good Luck and take the tour!

Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
I delivered there in January and had a great experience. I had a c-section and they asked me first if I minded a student observing. I didn't have a problem with it. The private room was the best part and all the nurses were wonderful. Good Luck!!

I delivered there last April and loved it! My midwife had her student midwife assist in the birth and it went great. You can advise them when you arrive that you don't want any students to be present.

Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
I delivered there this past April and my experience was great. I did have residents in my room and, personally, find them to be more helpful then anything else. I had a 1st year resident that was in my room but never touched me, he just did intake. They I had one that was doing his time to make OB his speciality and he performed some triage. I use the practice that the attendings belong to.

I delivered at Stony Brook this past April and had a wonderful experience.
I didn't mind the student intern, he actually held my hand when I was getting stitched up.

I delivered there a little over 2.5 years ago and found the experience to be great. The only time I came into contact with students was during intake and a sono

I delivered there in Feb 2007 and loved it. I allowed a student in. I was asked if I minded. I didn't care. I kind of think it is important that the students see real births.

Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
I delivered on Dec.22 2007 and had a great experience....except for the anestesiologist which was a resident. Granted I have scoliosis so he had a hard time inserting the catheder, the Dr. tried after two times that he failed and she still did not get it either (therefore I just think it was me). Other than the epidural not working---the nursing staff and the midwives were great!

Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
Deliverd there in November 06 -- it was great. My midwife asked if I minded having an OB resident present. I was fine with it (I actually wanted her to be there since I was having a drug-free birth and OB's rarely see those).
If you don't want a resident present just tell them "no, thanks."

Re: For those of you that delivered at Stony Brook?
delivered there in january and one resident came in before strt of my c-section that night and asked me if he could observe.....I was so worried I figured the more, the beter --I did tell him to make sure he was only observing, LOL! I had complications during my c-section but have to say Stony Brook and everyone there ws wonderful. I felt "safe" their after my complications and being a new mom, I was actually quite scared, not sure if that makes sense. The nurses answered al lmy questions and even pointed out when I pu the first diaper on backwards, looking back it seems silly but I am VERY thankful to those nurses, they helped me a great deal, and I was there for nearly a week.
