For those of you who had Covid
I had covid not that long ago and my nose was like a faucet, and my ears were super clogged. Mucinex-d was the only thing that helped. You need the kind with the pseudoephedrine that you have to show ID to get. Not the stuff they sell in the regular aisle. That stuff does nothing.

OMG yes. The stuff you don't have to show ID for is useless. But the good stuff that works causes my heart to race and gives me anxiety because of the -phedrine part of it. But there are times I will take it and deal with the jitters if I'm that congested because it does work.
Never had covid but when faced with flu and illnesses like that my lifesaver is always Ibuprofen. The only thing that helps body aches, sore throats, headaches for me. It's an anti inflamatory so it's a jack of all trades

For those of you who had Covid
My husband had it worse than I. The stuff that he used that was the best and helped the most was Theraflu, Chloraseptic Max, and Flonase

Yes! I feel like I'm on crack when I take that stuff. Not that I know what that feels like but I bet it feels like that haha. AND I had the flu like 3 weeks before getting Covid and it worked well for that as well. And the ibuprofen was great for my achey legs with flu! But that ruins my stomach so I was limiting it. I went like 3 years without ever being sick and then bam, flu and Covid in the same month (my son got Covid at his day program then I got it from him, but we were pretty mild). Hopefully I'm done with illness for a while now

This is exactly what I used but I also used Vicks at night for the cough.

Re: For those of you who had Covid
Funny how Covid is still being treated as the big bad virus to be scared of but it shows by people who have had it, it can, and does, get treated by meds that you use for every other virus and illness.

OP asked what OTC meds helped. And those are what did.
But without the 2 steroid prescriptions, 2 rounds of antibiotic and prescription inhalers, I have no doubt I would have been hospitalized.

In the 45 years I’m on this earth “any other virus” never made me that sick and I’ve never needed that much medication to get better. And then been sick since having the virus with after effects from it. So no. Not the same.

If I am not mistaken, you have many issues so that seems to make it worse.

Re: For those of you who had Covid
My 3 year old son and I both recently had covid. I had it much worse than him, but very different from how most people get it. I had nausea, vomiting, body aches, chills, and a very high fever. I'm just grateful I didn't get any breathing issues since I already have asthma. I did have post nasal drip for 2 weeks after covid and extreme fatigue- id get dizzy and my heart would race if I exerted myself at all. And I mean walking downstairs to the kitchen for a drink kind of exertion.
I used mostly just tylenol and motrin alternating to keep down the fever and reduce the body aches. Same with my son- he had the same symptoms as me, though his only lasted about 2-3 days, while mine lasted about 7.
A friend had severe chest pains and we were scared he was going to need to be admitted to the ER. He contacted the NYC Covid hotline and was given the antiviral meds. They delivered them to his house that day. It was like a miracle drug. He was testing negative and felt physically better in about 4 days.
ETA: While this virus has evolved into something more treatable, it's still the worst I felt in my life. And I have my vaccinations including a booster shot. My son was in really bad shape for the first two days, too. I've never seen him so sick. He had 104 fever at some points. I hope they keep up with researching those antiviral meds- I believe they were originally created to fight AIDS so that's how strong they are. Covid seems to be on it's way to being endemic, but it's always going to be here.

I think it is very naive to say it's like every other virus. I can assure you, it is not. I have no pre-existing conditions and I am definitely not the type that has been cautious. Quite frankly, I'm shocked we made it 2.5 years without it affecting our house. The initial illness made me feel like I had the flu. I felt better with OTC meds but the waves of exhaustion that continue to come over me make me feel like I was drugged. That's the only way to describe it. It comes from out of nowhere. I am vaxxed and boosted but that was in December so I don't know if it helped. I did a lot better than my husband who was not boosted and his vax long since expired. He's still sick and it's been over a week. And he's also in great physical shape with no co-morbidities. He's also a big loud mouth about this being nothing more than a cold so he's been quite humbled by the experience.

Re: For those of you who had Covid
Mucinex and Afrin every night to breathe. It was really 3-4 really bad days and then stuffy and congested with no voice maybe about 3-4 days after that lingered as well.
Sudafed helped too.

"his vax long since expired"
Funny you say that as I had to vaccinate to go on a cruise but everyone else probably expired too. It all makes NO sense at all.
