For those of you who leave their crockpots on while not home....

I have a question - is there any particular place you put the crockpot, away from certain things in your kitchen? Do you put anything underneath it?

I have never left it while not at home and I am getting a new one and I would like to start doing this but I am scared!

Has anyone ever had any problems while leaving it at home?

Thanks in advance!

I leave mine right on top of the dryer, while I have a load drying.

Re: For those of you who leave their crockpots on while not home....

I leave my glass cutting board underneath...in case it ever gets too hot....

I used my crockpot on sat....while I was home...and I kept checking to...the outside never got hot. That is a good thing since now I dont have to worry about leaving it on all day when Im not home!

I think I will do a trial run with the new one on Sunday and if all goes well, I will venture to use it while at work - of course, I will be calling my house every 10 minutes to make sure the answering machine picks up (does anyone do that?!)

No problems here. No particular place, like on the dryer-haha. Just in the kitchen on the counter.

I leave it on the kitchen counter and move everything away.

I usually place it on a couple of trivets (those things that help protect your kitchen table from the heat, etc.)

I just leave it on the kitchen counter. My counters are pretty clear so there isn't anything directly next to it but I never actually thought about it.

Re: For those of you who leave their crockpots on while not home....

I left it on yesteday and I was worrying about it all day. I'm not worried about anything on the counter on fire, just something going on with the outlet, but I suppose that can happen with anything plugged in huh?

I put it on top of a cutting board and moved every thing away from it

I do the kitchen counter thing too. I just make sure to move it away from the wall and that the dangling wire is not too close to the crockpot.

Out of curiousity, what difference would it make if the thing went on fire...no amount of trivets or cutting boards is going to make a difference at that pointChat Icon

I leave it on my stovetop usually.

You know, I've been reading these crockpot threads and now I'm developing this new paranoia about it. I use the crockpot a LOT, and I've been doing this for 5 years without ever thinking about it. Now I'm going to be second-guessing myself every time I leave the house with the damn thing on!

i just leave mine on the counter on top of a glass cutting board all day while i'm at work... i really think its ok. i think they cook at such a low heat thats its not a problem...
IMO, thats the whole point of owning a crockpot. so that when you come home from a looong work day, you're house smells great and dinner is already cooked Chat Icon

Yes, absolutely. In fact for more like 10hrs. I just program in the time. My old one I just turned on low and left it.
