i just leave mine on the counter on top of a glass cutting board all day while i'm at work... i really think its ok. i think they cook at such a low heat thats its not a problem... IMO, thats the whole point of owning a crockpot. so that when you come home from a looong work day, you're house smells great and dinner is already cooked
Same here

Re: For those of you who leave their crockpots on while not home....
I was told a long time by my very neurotic aunt that a crock pot uses the same amout of energy as a light bulb. I figure most people don't think twice about leavign a light on when they are not home.

I know, I know - this is what I keep telling myself! Otherwise, I could do the same thing in the oven! haha
I am getting my new crockpot this week so I am going to conduct a trial run on Sunday - hopefully I will be able to get over my phobia and leave it on while I am at work during the day because it would be a HUGE help with the cooking!!!!

I have granite counter tops - do you think I need a cutting board or is just putting it on the granite OK?

I think I will do a trial run with the new one on Sunday and if all goes well, I will venture to use it while at work - of course, I will be calling my house every 10 minutes to make sure the answering machine picks up (does anyone do that?!)
Okay, I am glad I am nto the only one who does this. DH thinks I am NUTS to do this. LOL! I just leave it on the counter. Knock on wood- or a computer screen nothing has happened yet.

OK am I the only person who doesn't always imagine the worst case scenario??
I put it on the counter - I turn it on - I leave the house. No problem.
