For those of you whose children have had the coxsackie virus

How long did you keep your child away from other children so that they're not contagious?

Best thing you can do is not allow them to be in the same room. Wash everything (cox sackie goes hand & hand with a lot of drool).

Also as the person who will be with both children - wash your hands like you have OCD.

It's not easy. Unfortunately my 2 week old came down with it so I was not successful.

eta. oops i read it as how did you keep them apart....how long, I believe the contagious period is 3-5 days. By the times the symptoms have appeared, you're already in the contagious period.

My DD got it a few days after my DS was born. Thankfully my newborn never got it. It is MOST contagious when the have the fever. I believe my ped said once the rash comes they are no longer contagious. Please confirm that with your ped.

My DD also had it 3 - 5 days. Parts of the rash took longer to go away though.
