For those on BCP and TTC in June...
When are you planning to stop taking BCP? I have always heard that you should give your body 2-3 cycles to adjust so you can get to know your body again. But I can imagine that the anticipation of TTC would make me not want to wait! I was planning on finishing the pack that ended some time in March/early April. And is the only real reason for stopping early just to get to know your cycles?

Re: For those on BCP and TTC in June...
I'm already off... been off since July. Took a few months for things to get 'regular' but I wanted as much time as possible to learn my cycles as we're planning to do the Shettles method thing and try for a boy -- the timing thing has to be basically exact for that.

Re: For those on BCP and TTC in June...
i stopped the pill when we decided we were ready for a baby and we just stopped being careful when it came to sex thinking the chance of something happening the first few cycles was slim....i got pregnant right away. i really thought it would take a few cycles b/c i had no idea how regular i would be but it turns out i ovulated right on time and i guess my DH has some good swimmers
but i lost the baby at 9 weeks....we had testing done to see if there was a reason why (as far as genetics/chromosomes) but my doctor said there is a chance that my body wasn't ready since i got pregnant so quickly after stopping the pill. she said bcps thin your uterine lining and since i never had a real period before getting pregnant it could have had something to do with the miscarriage. she said that is part of the reason they advise waiting 3 months. she also said it could have nothing to do with it. so who knows.
in the future i am waiting the 3 cycles (if i ever go back on bcps and now after having the loss i am waiting a full 3 cycles at least to be safe)
good luck!

Wow, Nik, thank you so much for sharing that. I'm so sorry for your loss but I really appreciate you sharing that because I have never heard of that before, and that is definitely something major. Best of luck to you

Thank you for sharing that, Nik
I just started my last pack of pills. Then we're going to wait the 3 months to start officially TTC in May. I've been on BCP for almost a decade now. I feel like I need to give my body a little time to adjust. Plus I'd like that time to work on being healthier and more active.

Thank you.
I never thought something could go wrong if i got pregnant right away....they say it is safe to get pregnant on the pill and I know of lots of people who got pregnant while taking the pill and after stopping the pill and had perfect pregnancies and babies.
If I thought something could go wrong from getting pregnant too soon we would have waited but we didn't think it was something to worry about - and we still haven't received results yet from the testing so I'm not sure what to think....
I just know after this experience we'll wait....
Ironically the same thing goes for miscarriage. Some doctors say wait 3 months (like mine) and others say 1 cycle......so I don't know what is right...but from now on i plan on waiting things out, it can't hurt...

Re: For those on BCP and TTC in June...
Hi...crashing here but glad I did today to see this post! I am recently back on BCP after having DD late June. Want to TTC in June when DD is 1 yr old.
I just had a check up with my dr 2 weeks ago and I asked him this exact question knowing I wouldn't see him again until after June when I'd like to start TTC. He said they tell you to wait 3 months after going off the pill just so you get to know your cycles. He said that is the only reason. So he basically gave me the ok to try immediately after going off.
Not sure how long you have been on BCP or if this will be your 1st baby/1st time TTC. Since this is my 2nd just wanted to share what happened my first time trying. I went off BCP at the end of the year - finished my last pack late November. I was on it for 15 yrs so wanted to wait and learn my cycles and watch how things would go. I wish that I had just tried right away...or I should say I wish I hadn't tried preventing it - we used other protection. I had 3 regular cycles - they were 6 weeks long each. After that I thought ok, my cycles are 6 weeks, I'm ready to try. I went 100+ days with no AF...very frustrating. I also came down with a skin yeast - sorry if TMI - my OB didn't say it had anything to do with stopping the pill but I also saw my dermatologist since it was a skin condition and he felt 100% I got this from my body reacting to stopping BCP - esp since I was on it for so many years. I had this skin thing for a good 2 months - so I would not let DH near me with a 10 ft pole...so no TTC even if I was on a cycle I could understand. Once the skin thing cleared up, I took Provera just to bring on AF. At that point I had no idea what to expect so I started using OP sticks. I ovulated on cd52 and I got my BFP in 2 weeks when I tested...and now have a 6 mo old DD! So...I went from stopping BCP in late November - didn't conceive until the following September. I am not complaining - I know that others try for years. I just wanted to share my story in that you may just want to stop pill and see what happens and not necessarily try and prevent it...I often wonder if I would have gotten pregnant sooner when I had those 3 regular cycles. Will never know but I am so confused as to when to stop BCP for DC#2. I would love to conceive in June....no idea if I should stop BCP in March or April or even before that. Good luck to you!

This is our first time TTC, and I have been on BCP for at least 8-9 years (hard to remember now!). Thank you for sharing your story....it just goes to show that everyone has different experiences when TTC. I'm starting to lean towards stopping the pill in March and not really "trying" until June so that I can get to know my body, just in case there are any complications or anything. There are so many scary/unfortunate/happy/successful stories out there, so it's really hard to make a decision on what the "best" thing to do is. I guess like everyone else, I'm just hoping for an easy and healthy pregnancy!

Re: For those on BCP and TTC in June...
I talked to my dr about this since we are starting may/june... whenever i finish that last pill, then its all in gods hands. Dr. said the pill comes out of your system very quickly, the only benefit of waiting after you stop it is that YOU will know what your really cycle is. BUT, you tend to be very fertile right after you stop. I am not waiting, we are stopping the pill and starting. But I think that is just a personal preference!

I'm planning to go off BCP sometime in the spring. My dr. has said he has seen a lot of women get pregnant the first month off the pill.

My doc said to stop 3 months before we wanted to start TTC. Your schedule sounds about right!
