? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I am not sure what to do. I did get some birth control from my doc. However, I hate putting anything in my body now if I don't really need it. I have PCOS, and do not ovulate. However, I know the body can change after having a child, and right now would not be good to have another child.

SO, for those of you that had to undergo fertility issues to get pregnant, are you now using any forms of birth control just in case? If so, what?

TIA

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I'm not on anything yet...my baby is less than 2 weeks old... but I may go on BC after I see the Dr. We have MF and did IVF to get pregnant. Part of me feels like BC is a waste and part of me feels like you never know....things change and even though the first baby was hard to conceive the next may not be. If I got pregnant soon I can't say I would be devastated so this is one convo me and DH have to have. If you're not ready I would be on the safe side and get some BC.

Hi Luann!

Can you temp? You are probably waking up a loit but if you have 4 uninterrupted hours of sleep you can temp and chart CM--its not 100% but pretty reliable

I didn't have IF issues, but I can't go on BCP or IUD due to a blood disorder, so we have to use condoms.

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

We were first told that it would be a miracle to have a child. After some chemo, DS came along. He was our Christmas miracle last year. The end of my pregnancy was not good and the delivery nearly cost me my life. Although I know the percentage is not high to get pregnant again, I am in bad shape in that area to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I am on the mini pill, as I am breastfeeding. I figure that if I became fertile at one point, it could happen again.

There are many factors to decide on what to do. Can your body handle pregnancy again? Can you two handle another baby right now? I always think about safety and sanity. Chat Icon

Hmm, I do get a stretch of about 4 hours now sometimes. I just want to see what my own body does with nothing in it for a while...maybe I can temp like the first days of TTC.

We are not. The chances of us getting PG naturally are slim to none. It COULD happen but then we would except it as a blessing, even though its not something we want right now.

It took us IVF ( over 2 yrs of trying) to get PG.

Your little miracle is sooo handsome!!!!

my body could handle another pregnancy, and we of course would welcome another baby with open arms, our pocketbook would just be upset right now, we want to have another baby in a couple of years, so I just want my body to not be on anything, and see what happens. I guess we will just see how it goes.

We use spermicide inserts & condoms. I am not fan of bcp in general.

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I was on BCP for 10 years. When I went off, it took 20 months for me to get pregnant. But that was because I had endometriosis issues, a polyp on my uterus, and surgery to remove both. After delivery I promptly went back on BCP and will continue until we want to try to conceive again. I don't think the BCP's caused my infertility.

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I have PCOS and went through IVF to get pregnant.

We're currently using the handy dandy pull and pray method.

We had severe Male Factor issues and I'm also on CD 55 after my first AF, so I'm thinking I didn't regulate like some women do after pregnancy.

As of right now the plan is to use Provera to force me to have a period if I don't get one on my own and regulate that way.

I go a little wacky on BCP, so that's a last resort for me.

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I had the same issues....PCOS and IVF! I totally could handle another pregnancy! Although not right now with the twins. We are using condoms right now until we decide if we are going to have any more children. If the answer is no, then DH will have to snip-snip!

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

We got pg after 2nd IVF - male factor and I have elevated FSH.

We are not using anything -- actually we are trying for #2 naturally! Ha, not that it will happen.

Sorry, I am no help. BUT - I would maybe temp like Melissa suggested. I wouldn't be too eager to go on BCP personally.

Re: ? for those that had fertility issues, but did have a baby.

I also was told I do not ovulate(seldom even get AF) and have been p/g 6 times(4 m/c's) and 2 of those times I got p/g with zero intervention no drugs, nothing! So I would say, you need to do something. My girlfriend swears by her IUD. She loves that there is no drugs, no worries and can have it removed whenever she wants.

I have PCOS too and am very irregular that I took Metformin which helped me to regulate somewhat but it was enough to get me pregnant when my dr's told me I would need assistance. I haven't gotten AF yet after giving birth (5 months ago) but not sure if that is the PCOS, PP Thyroiditis or bc I am BF. We are just using condoms b.c I don't want to mess with BCP again they totally messed up my body.
