For those that have summer birthdays
as a kid did you feel left out cause you couldn't bring cupcakes in on your birthday and/or couldn't get your locker decorated or anything like that?

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
Don't have a summer birthday (May) but actually planned my kids around not having summer birthdays for this very reason.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
YES! I felt left out because in my elem school the principal would announce birthdays during the AM announcements...well the summer birthdays were always left out!
My friends would decorate my locker in June or September

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I'm a mid-July baby. never felt left out. I always had the best summer birthday parties that were outdoors, or pool parties, etc....
In HS, they used to decorate my locker in January on my 1/2 b-day.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
Totally felt left out! My mom would usually bring in cupcakes during the last week of school, though.
I see all the kids that I teach now with tons of balloons in the hallway and getting their lockers decorated and it makes me a bit jealous - is that wrong??
I did, however, have some kick azz pool parties!

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I have a winter birthday and was always jealous of the summer birthday kids. My birthday parties got cancelled because of snowstorms a few times . I actually celebrated my half birthday instead a few times so I could have a pool party!

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I never felt left out, celebrating at school was never a big thing. In fact, my brothers birthday was in January and I know my mother didn't send anything on his day! In my neighborhood you had parties with the kids on your block or in close proximity.
And I don't remember locker decorating in HS, in my HS if someone messed with your locker it usually wasn't a good thing

Me too!!! I had snowdays on several birthdays, but still. I wanted pool parties instead.
Now, as a teacher, I have all of the summer birthday kids bring in treats and we celebrate!

Absolutely! And for that very reason, I celebrate the summer b'days in my class towards the end of the school year.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
My birthday is July 30th but my mom let me choose a random day to bring in my cupcakes to school. I was also allowed to cover my face in icing while making my birthday cupcakes. It was fun; I usually brought them in at the end of the year.
But when I was young and had parties people were often on vacation and not around. That part was sad. As an adult though I LOVE having a summer birthday. We do fun things outside or go away for a weekend outside that we can't do for DH's birthday in Dec.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
No, in elem. school the summer b-day kids were allowed to celebrate their b-days towards the end of the school year & bring in cupcakes, munchkins, wear the b-day crown, etc...I think our teacher picked a few days in June that we celebrated.
I also LOVED the fact that I never had to go to school on my b-day...that was the coolest!!!!

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
The last week of school, my mother would bring up her homemade pizza and the class would celebrate my birthday early.....
Every year, my new teacher asked if my mom was bringing up her pizza...

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
August birthday here- never felt left out - brought cupcakes in during the last weeks of school and in junior high my friends decorated my locker and gave me balloons at the end of school.
I always felt worse for my sister, who is a January baby - cause she always had to go to school on her b-day.
