Re: For those that have summer birthdays
This was one reason we are bummed that the baby didn't come on time. I wanted to be able to bring in cupcakes for his birthday. If I have him within the next couple of days I can still get away with them celebrating it earlier in school - but if this kid holds out for much longer - then - No Cupcakes for him!

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
My b-day is in July so I was not able to bring cupcakes to school so I missed out on that. When I got to HS, they did 1/2 b-day. If your b-day was in the summer, add 6 months to your birth month and that was your 1/2 b-day so your friends would decorate your locker for your 1/2 b-day.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
Well...my birthday is December 28 and it was always over Christmas Break from school...so I didn't get to celebrate in school either....I felt left out too
ETA: My mom was not the kind who made cup cakes to bring to school...especially because there are 2 of us (twins )

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
Mine is in August but never felt left out, actually always loved that I ALWAYS had off for my birthday. My brothers would complain that they had to go to school on their b-days.

Yes I did! Even though my Bday is a National Holiday that the whole US celebrates
I have the same birthday . . . not only did I feel left out, but my friends were always away for my b-day. I know, poor me, right!

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I'm not, but my son has a July birthday and I always thought about this. It's kind of a shame. I hope it doesn't end up disappointing him in the future.

thats funny you posted this. today my dds class is having a special party for all the kids who have summer birthdays. i thought that was a great idea.
My dd just had her summer birthday in class. I think they had 5 summer birthdays and each one had their own party this month.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
My birthday is usually right around graduation. It was actually the day of my graduation. I hated it in High School b/c my parties were always in competition with grad parties..
It was OK when I was in grammar school, even though it was usually right around the last day.
My sister's b-day is in August & she loved having pool/beach parties when most others did not, so I don't think she cared too much that her b-day was not during school.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I was the opposite!
It's funny cause when I was a kid my BF was an August b-day and she had the BEST pool parties and I would ask my mom PLEEEEASE - can I celebrate my b-day in the summer??
it never worked.....
PS- I'm a November baby....

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
Not a summer birthday, but my birthday is 12/29 and I too felt left out b/c I never had school on my birthday. It fell during Winter break, so I always missed a party or any sort of recognition...

I'm a mid-July baby. never felt left out. I always had the best summer birthday parties that were outdoors, or pool parties, etc....
In HS, they used to decorate my locker in January on my 1/2 b-day.
Same here without the decorations in January though. Hence the reason I badly want summer babies only. Sooo much fun!!

I never felt left out, celebrating at school was never a big thing. In fact, my brothers birthday was in January and I know my mother didn't send anything on his day! In my neighborhood you had parties with the kids on your block or in close proximity.
And I don't remember locker decorating in HS, in my HS if someone messed with your locker it usually wasn't a good thing
could have written this word for word myself. (even having a brother w a bday in january )
Anywho, I always (and stll do) feel bad for anyone that DOESNT have a summer bday! I felt priveleged, honored and so lucky to be on vacation on my birthday. I celebrated more of my birthdays in Italy than in the US growing up. and when we entered the work world, my sister and I vowed to NEVER work on our birthday, and I never have. no work no school. ever.
It never dawned on me that "school day" bday people felt bad for us, I still feel bad for my boys who are Oct and March, and so happy for my summer baby.

Re: For those that have summer birthdays
I did feel a little left out. I was always able to have a pool party so that made up for it a little. I got doubly screwed though because my half b-day falls on new years eve - so even when teachers let the summer b-day kids celebrate half b-days I never got to do that either!

The last week of school, my mother would bring up her homemade pizza and the class would celebrate my birthday early.....
Every year, my new teacher asked if my mom was bringing up her pizza...
that is soooo cute !!!!! I could totally picture my mom doing that too
My dad and my nonno used to give Mr.Softie a glass of wine every nite that the truck came by imagine that in this day and age and somehow me and my siblings got the extra big ice cream cones and Mister Softie t-shirts.
