For those that pump at work?
How long do you pump for? I barely pump for 10 minutes. I set up, pump, and put everything away within 15 minutes. I'm sure that's why I don't get much milk, but I just can't take longer than that. I'll get into trouble! Anyone else?

Re: For those that pump at work?
I would pump for 20 minutes, but I could close my office door and still work and pump at the same time.
Legal you are supposed to be able to pump at work.

Re: For those that pump at work?
10 minutes is not long enough. I would pump for at least 15, mostly 20.
And what do you mean, in trouble? They can't prevent you from pumping if that's what you chose to do for your child!! 10 minutes is just NOT enough to get an adequate amount, that's all you need to tell them!

I agree, I CANNOT believe that your job is doing this to you!!! I never pumped so I don't know, but I just had to respond about this situation. Is there anyone you can report this to??

Re: For those that pump at work?
Do you pump a whole 20 minutes or does that include setting it up, etc.? I don't have my own office, so finding somewhere to pump and then finding someone to cover where I work is such a PIA. It's very stressful.

Regardless you can find someone to cover or not, they should NOT make you feel like you will be in trouble for doing this - your son is ONLY 4 months old! What about going to your car? That is if you drive to work.

Re: For those that pump at work?
They are "letting" me pump, but if I take too long I'll be docked for it basically. I'm an hourly employee. (It seems they are letting me do the bare minimums just so I can't turn around and sue them).

Re: For those that pump at work?
MElissa, if I were in your shoes, I would still take as long as you need to, even if it ends up being taken out of your paycheck. It is only a few extra minutes but they will make a very big difference in your supply.
I am really sorry you are getting such a hard time at the office!

I am so sorry... I'm not one for law suits, but even so, it seems you have a case on your hands (JMO)... Do you drive to work? I think your car would be the most "private" spot for pumping... unless of course the pump needs to be plugged in - that I do not know.

i am pretty sure you can plug it in in the car. I believe mine came with a special wire just for that!

Re: For those that pump at work?
I park in a parking deck and it's definitely not private... too busy!
If I pump longer how will it make my supply better exactly? Will the "let downs" be more or will I have more "let downs"? Thanks!

Re: For those that pump at work?
I am not pumping at work, but returning to work and still BF. I will BF DD at 6 am, then not again until 3:45 pm. I have been practicing for a few weeks now & my supply has adjusted very well. She gets formula in between. At my job, it is very very inconvenient to pump as well. Good luck.
To answer your question: the more you pump, the better your supply. It's all supply & demand. Your body will get used to the increased demand & produce more milk.
