For those that Went to Home Depot to have their Kitchens designed
and then went with a private contractor for the construction? Please tell me your experience. TIA

Well we went to HD to have our kitchen designed and ordered all the cabinetry from them (great experience with HD).
We decided to save the almost $2k that it would have cost for them to install and installed it ourselves. My DH, his dad and brother (who are all very handy) installed everything and even though it took longer than if a professional would have done it, it came out great.

We were lucky enough to have a my brothers install our cabinets. It's what my one brother did for a living for about 10 yrs.
He measured everything and gave it to us to take to HD. We ordered the cabinets without any problems.
Had a great experience with them. They are very patient. Because he didn't even know what we wanted when we walked in there.

I had HD design the kitchen and I bought the cabinets from them. My Dad and DH installed the cabinets.
I had a great experience with ordering the cabinets..one actually came damaged and I had no problems at all getting a new one within a week at no cost to me. Thankfully it was an upper cabinet so it didn't slow down my installation of the lower cabinets and counter top.

This is exactly what we did. DH one of his friends and my brother installed the cabinets. Took them a bit longer but it saved us a chunk of $$.
They wanted to much to install them and we don't have a big kitchen AT ALL

wow.. i was just going to post the SAME question!
we went last night to have our kitchen designed.. but are afraid of the installation prices and the electric/plumbing that needs to get done as well
