For those who have hardwood floors in more then one room in your house....
Are they all the same color?
The reason I ask is bc my living room has hardwood floors and we are extending our dining room and have to get new hardwood floors....does the dining room floor have to be the same color as the living room or can we go alittle darker?? If so how do you think that would look??
If anyone has pictures please post.....Most likely we will keep the floors all the same color I was just wondering if I had other options. TIA

Re: For those who have hardwood floors in more then one room in your house....
We have very pale bamboo in my office, and are going with a hardwood in our dining room eventually, but the living room separating them is carpeted, so the woods aren't touching....
In general, I see no reason why you can't change the color of the wood between rooms. They are separate rooms. The wall color is different, the furniture is different, the floors are currently different.
What kind of separator is there between rooms, or is it wide-open, and only the furniture dictates what the "rooms" are?

We have hardwood floors throughout the first and second floor of our house and they are all the same color. However, I don't think they NEED to all be the same color. My parents have hardwoods throughout their first floor, even in the kitchen. The kitchen is lighter than the rest of the first floor and it looks fine.

We have wood floors in every room besides the kitchen and bathrooms. They are original with the house, but we restained them all the same color. I vote for keeping a consistant look throughout.

We have real hardwood floors in our living room, den, and office. In the kitchen we put down a lamant flooring that is much lighter than the rest of the house because it went better with the cabinets.
You can see the difference in this pic.

IMO, the color should definitely match. you may not get a totally 100% perfect match but it should not be a noticeable difference in shades.
i have hardwood through (except bathrooms). when we bought, the den had carpeting and vinyl flooring underneath. we replaced with hardwood and since the kitchen was next to the den, we made sure that the color and direction of the wood matched.

Re: For those who have hardwood floors in more then one room in your house....
I have hardwoods floors throughout. I really wanted to do different colors in the bedrooms but I chickened out because I thought it would look funny. I wish I had done them a different color. I think if you can seperate the rooms with a saddle or, if the planks are running a different way or there is an obvious break, you can change the color. Good luck!

Re: For those who have hardwood floors in more then one room in your house....
We just had hardwood flooring installed in our kitchen since our living room and dining room have it. We had them match the same stain. IMO I think it should all match.

Everywhere in my house is the same except for the kitchen which we just did over.
The kitchen is a dark maghogany wood and the rest is a mix of light and dark oak. I love the way it looks!

Re: For those who have hardwood floors in more then one room in your house....
We have hardwood in the entire house except the bathrooms. The first (computer room and family room) and third (living room and playroom) levels and all the stairs are the same (oak with a gunstock stain). The kitchen/dining room level (second level) is prefinished kempas and the fourth (bedroom) level is prefinished Brazilian cherry. They are similar but not an exact match. I like how it looks.

All rooms minus bedroom and living room has hardwood. All are the same color, which I prefer. We are ripping up the carpet in the living room and putting the same hardwood and color down.
