For those who must return to work, what's the reason? POLL
Ok, I'm just curious, I'm sure alot of us don't have the luxury of staying home because it's so difficult surviving w/o a dual income these days...
What's the primary reason why you need to return to work?

There is no way that we would be able to pay our mortgage and all the other bills without both of our salaries at the moment. If that weren't the case, I'd stay home in a second.

Definitely the income, but I really do love working and the challenges it brings me. I've always wanted a career and worked too hard not to have one.
I think it's important to balance work and family if you can afford to do so. If I wasn't paid the way I am, I may have a different opinion though.

I have the stable income and benefits DH own his own business and dabbles in mortgages and real estate.
I also worked really hard to have a career and I don't think I'd enjoy staying home with no adult interaction and challenges

My primary reason is the dual incomes but I also have worked hard for my career and enjoy what I do. I think that it will be an asset to my child to have a strong working woman as a mother.

DHs salary would cover the mortgage/taxes and student loans ....but if we want to eat, have heat, drive the cars... I'll have to work

We could definitely use the dual income, but I am the benefits holder, so that is even more important. Plus, I like working. Hopefully I will get a sabbatical for the spring and I would have 3/4 pay, benefits and only have to take 9 credits.

same here, except i still wouldn't stay home. I don't think i'm really the stay at home kind of type. I need to keep busy and i'd just drive myself crazy. Maybe once we have 3 kids i will... but not now.

We need the money plus I want to go back to work.. I don't want to be doing anything 100% of my time.. I think splitting my time with the kids and work will be best for the kind of person I am.

I voted “I make more” which I do, significantly more so.
Also I need the challenge and the people, its just who I am. *shrug*
Money is a huge factor. Even if I got really tight and stayed at home, I’d be miserable. I want our child to have things I didn’t and I’m not talking extravagance, but I’m a true believer that scraping by is never good enough. I have to know we can be comfortable. Too many times bad things happen and I hate being the one stuck crying at home because I have no way out. I did it once, but swore never again. Which is why I have been cutting corners and paying off debt NOW before the baby! I have to work, to guarantee my child can have a bright future.
(or at least that's what I think)

I chose other.
I could stay home, but we have free daycare , grandma 
I don't want my DH to have all the financial pressure, I want to continue saving for retirement. In the long run if I keep working we will be much better off financially. Life will be much easier for us in 10-20 yrs from now since we have the luxury of free babysitter

We need the dual income as well as I want to start my career. I think i would go crazy at home. I need to have my own money on the side.
