For those who put their DC in daycare as an infant

How did it go? DS is going to be about 15 weeks when he goes to daycare. My maternity leave was for only 12 weeks, but my MIL is off now so she's watching Mason till Sept. I just started going back to work Monday and the last two days Mason seems to not be happy with me when I get home. He won't look at me and then after an hour I finally get my big "mommy" smile. I know it sounds bad, but I'm looking more forward to him going to daycare b/c I'll get to drive with him in the mornings and evenings and the daycare is 2 mins from my office.

How did your DC adjust? Did you call a lot in the beginning? Thanks!

My boys adjusted beautifully. I put them in at 12 weeks and the ladies love on them so much and take great care of them. I think I only called once, believe it or not Chat Icon

Alex started daycare at 10 weeks and did absolutely wonderful there. I would call twice a day for the first month or so, but after that, I stopped calling. I also worked from home a lot so I would drop by during those days and nurse her and hang out for a little while Chat Icon

I put Abby in at 12 weeks. She adjusted very well and was/is still well cared for. I called once the first day and that was it.

DD is now on her 3rd week of daycare and she does absolutely fine.

I will say that I am really glad that I had her start daycare a week + before I went back to work. I had her go for a few hours a day to get us used to the routine and more so to ease my nerves.

When I get home we cherish our time together and suprisingly she remembers that I'm MOMMY!!!!

DD adjusted really well, and in fact it seemed to help get her on a schedule, sleep through the night regularly and for longer durations, etc.

DS started daycare at 3.5 months. He adjusted really well and even learned how to nap in the crib there. Chat Icon

We put DD in daycare the first time at 10 weeks...She did great. She was at that daycare until 10 months, and by that time, she only cried when I PICKED HER UP...because she loved it so much she didn't want to leave...

We pulled her from there to have Mom watch her and save money - and we just enrolled her 2 days a week again...she's had a harder time now b/c of separation anxiety...

I called usually once a day, but as she got older, I didn't always call...now, I call every so often...

My DS and DD adjusted better then I did. It will be fine. It is hard in the beginning but as long as he is going to a good daycare you will feel much better about it. Its an adjustment but understand you child still loves you even if you have to work.

DD started when she was 14 weeks old. She did great. She's 22 months old now and to this day, I have never called to check on her.

Jacob started at 14 weeks. He adjusted very quickly. I came home early the first day - I didn't call. It took a long time before he gave me big smiles when I came to pick him up, but I think that is normal.

DC has been in since he was 12 weeks. I called twice a day for the first week. He loves it there. When I come to pick him up, he's having such a good time, he doesn't even know I'm there, but then we he does notices he gives me the biggest smile.

DD adjusted very well. She was a little older, 6 months. The younger, the easier it is to adjust.

My daycre encouraged me to call with questions or check in. I would stop by when I could to check on her. You should be able to do the same if it makes you feel better.

Re: For those who put their DC in daycare as an infant

I never called. Its not a habit I wanted to start with me. She was 15weeks when she went in. As long as she was held, loved, fed, cleaned and played with, she was happy. And with the daycare we chose she was VERY HAPPY.

It was a lot easier than I thought but still as difficult as imagined. Its odd. I too, wanted to get back to work but still a part of me missed the routine of having her home with me.

I threw myself into work and so I got back into that routine quickly and that helped.

Now.. i cant imagine AJ not in daycare..

Oh and thank GOD for those daycare women, I have no idea HOW they do it.
