For those who work for or have interviewed for a Federal job

I've been applying for jobs on Usajobs.com since December. When I go on the website and look at my applications, there are 2 jobs that say "Eligible- Application forwarded to selecting official." For one of these, I received an email saying that I was going to be contacted for the next step. This was a month ago, and I haven't heard anything.

Is this a normal timeline for the government? I know it takes a LONG time to be hired, but I thought I would have heard SOMETHING about the next step by now.

i work for the government...state....and yes things do take their sweet time....

I agree with the previous poster. i used to work for the state. I interviewed in Jan and Feb and didn't start until September. I would get email updates to "keep holding on".. As frustrating as it was, i was working at the time, so I "held on", but it was worth the wait as pizzed off as I was. That job was my stepping stone to where I am now and I really don't think I would be where i am now without the state job experience. For me, the wait was worth it, don't get discouraged. This is how they operate.

The govt takes forever with that stuff... it took me several years to finally get my job.

Not only do they take forever. I know some agencies have a hiring freeze that may have taken effect AFTER the job as listed - also causing a delay.
