For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
DH and I have been TTC close to a year now and we haven't even been seen by a specialist yet but I guess I am just thinking into the "what if" scenarios. My insurance fully covers IUI but not IVF for those of you who did IVF without insurance coverage how much did it end up being and is there anything out there that can help you with the cost?

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
So our insurance does not cover either, and we are doing Micro IVF ( same as conventional just with clomid rather than shots) our RE quoted us $8K with all the bells and whistles, compared to $15K-$20K depending on meds. Good Luck!!

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
We are in the same situation and we are doing IVF now. As a matter of fact, today's my transfer . Ask your RE if they participate in the NYS grant. It works on a sliding scale, and there are some criteria you need to meet, but it covers a lot! The cost will depend a lot on which RE you see also. At mine, it's $10,000 and up depending if they need to do ICSI, PGD...etc. Meds are addl depending on what they have you on. Sometimes you can get meds offered from ladies here or your RE may have donated meds they can give you.
Good Luck!!!!

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
2 1/2 years ago we did the Attain program at NS Center for Human Reproduction. It allowed you 3 fresh cycles, 3 fets and if you did not have your "take home baby" you got a certain portion back - i think it was 60%?. I believe it was around $20,000. We luckily conceived dd on our first fresh cycle with this RE (although had done a failed cycle with another RE). Yes, the Attain program was more $ but gave me piece of mind that we could get something back if it didnt work and if it did work we spent more but got our baby. As we go back for #2 that option is just to expensive for us so we shall see. There are payment plans and loans you can take out but probably depends on the RE you see. As a pp mentioned there is a grant you can apply for as well if you meet the requirements. Meds were not covered 2 1/2 years ago but just recently I got approval - totally shocked. Good luck!!!

For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
Definitely call different clinics to get price quotes. Unfortunately there's a big difference from one place to the next. Good luck!!!

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
I spent about $25,000 on treatments. My IVF cycle was $12,000 by itself. This was 5 years ago. We depleted a 401K to do it.

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
Adding that each IUI was $500.00 I did three with this office. My monitoring was covered, during IUI, but will not be during IVF.

For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
I have a consultation with LI IVF on the 22nd to discuss IVF. My last cycle just ended because of overstimulation, and my RE wanted to switch to IVF, but we can afford it with them. We already spent $3400 for an injectable cycle with medication, and the women in the financial department said it would be an additional $9000 if we wanted to do IVF- something we absolutely do no have.
I was told there are only a few REs on the island who participate in any type of loan program, and LI IVF is one of them. If you have any questions let me know, I'll ask them for you. The one thing I need to know is how selective are these loan companies- DH and I don't have the greatest credit in the world, so I'm so worried that we'll be denied.

For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
Total cost for IVF was $10,000 including ICSI. My meds were covered under my prescription plan and cost me about $80 total (forget the exact amount).
I was reimbursed for about 40% of the $10k even without IVF coverage because my clinic sent me itemized claim forms for everything... for example, blood tests and ultrasounds are covered and for IVF, you need many of them. Everything specific to IVF (transfer, retrieval, ICSI) was not reimbursed.

Where did you go for your ivf that they did this? I don't have any infertility coverage and paid out of pocket for 6 iuis with Dr. Mullin at NSLIJ. I hoped that would work, but she has put her foot down about not wasting money any more on iui and going onto ivf with icsi.... But we just don't know how we will afford it! So I am delaying the ivf consult bc I am scared I won't be able to afford it....

I left that practice bc of their high prices. For me, with insurance I was told Ivf would be 7,000. At LI Ivf same thing will be 1,500. Big difference.

Re: For those whose insurance doesn't cover IVF
We did the Attain program through North Shore. It was about 18K and covers 2 fresh and 2 frozen cycles until you get your 'take home baby.' It doesn't cover any of the meds, those cost us about 5K more. We took a loan out through Springstone to pay off the Attain program.

AShley - I forgot you did that program - that's great - so this next cycle is covered?

Yea, it's covered. I actually met with them last week and found out that I have 15 frozen embryos - 3 are individual frozen and the other 12 are paired off. One embie made it to day 6 before freezing so that's going to be the one we transfer first, as long as it survives thawing out.
