For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
What type of career do you have?
At the time I was afraid to think of getting my Ph.D so I went for a Masters in Education to become a teacher. I felt like there was nothing out there for people with a BA in psych.
I love psychology and I was just wondering what types of options are out there.
TIA

Re: For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
I majored in sociology and psych and ended up pursuing my Master's in social work after working in the human services field (mostly case management stuff in mental health) for several years.
Getting an entry-level job (they don't pay a lot) in a group home or something similar and working your way up is the way to go in this field, before pursuing your Master's in anything human-service related IMO.
It will give you a chance to see if you like working in the field and some places will even pay towards your Master's. It's also easier to find a decent job if you have real working experience under your belt.

What do you teach? Have you thought about becoming a school social worker?

Re: For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
i agree that there isnt much out there for psych unless you get your phd or psyd or go to grad school for something else like law or social work.

Re: For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
My DH went and got his PhD in clinical psych- a 7 year process. He says there arent a whole lot of long term positions for peoples with bachelors in psych- mostly project coordinators.

I also went on for an MSW and work as a social worker.

Right now, I teach science in a middle school. I took 15 credits in a school counseling program but from what I hear within the schools those positions are slim. There is not enough openings and it comes down to who you know when a position finally opens up.
What is a school social work program like? I just can not afford to go back to school for a position that is not in demand.

School SW positions are NOT in demand at all. It's also a different licensing/experience requirement from what I understand, as well.

Re: For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
I work for the State Government Auditing Adult Care Facilitites and monitoring mental health case management programs. I have my Master's in Healthcare Technology and Management. I make a great salary and have great benefits.
When I was working at the non-profit sector of mental health, I was overworked and very underpaid. You have to pay your dues in this field before you expect to make any money.

Re: For those with a Bachelors in Psychology Question
I have a friend that works as a case worker supervisor for an agency that works with mentally handicapped adults.
She started right out of college as a case worker, with just a BS in Pysch. It is really low paying though & msot people get burned out.
My husband also has a BS in pysch & worked as a data manager/programmer in a pysch hospital, helping researchers prepare & analyze data for their grants. It was very computer-oriented & he later got an MS in Computer science & works for the IT department of the hospital.
My other psych major friends work in non-related fields.

Human Resources.
My degree keeps me sane & the abnormal psych classes explains a lot of my co-workers.
