For those with a sitter/nanny at your home -- do they follow daycare "rules"
Specifically, do they use gloves when changing LO's diapers/pottying them?
We had a new sitter start last week and our older DS wet his bed. The sitter said she'd change it but only if she could wear gloves.
It's not a problem at all -- I purchased several boxes of gloves and have them put all over the house (we have three floors of living space so three changing stations) -- was just wondering if anyone else's in-home provider was doing similar things. The nanny before this one didn't do this so I'm curious.
Thx.

No she doesn't ask for gloves.
I think she'd laugh at me if I asked her if she wanted them.

That would be enough for me to not like her. Imho it's immature to be a nanny and afraid to get your hands a little dirty. It's different in daycare bc of cross contamination between kids from different households.

I actually LOVE that she asked for gloves. My son is in daycare full time. they must have gloves on when they change diapers and fee them or handle food.
I'ld love if a nanny wanted to do that as well. Lets face it.. you dont know if she washed thoroghly after handling poopy diaper or urine stained clothes.. so go for it with teh gloves..
It protects her as much as it protects your DC.

I agree! My twins are in an inhome daycare and they wear gloves everytime they change diapers.

haha my DH wears gloves (when there's poo involved. ) so I wouldn't find it weird at all. i agree that i'd rather that than wonder if the person was properly washing their hands.

I can't imagine my nanny doing this, and she takes care of DD and my nephew together. I trust that she washes her hands after changing them and before preparing food and feeding them.
That seems really weird to me.

My nanny does not use gloves.. I asked the first nanny I hired if she wanted them and she said no so I never asked the second nanny. I think the concern is more cross-contamination at a daycare which wouldn't be an issue watching just one kid

No gloves here. I would think that was strange if only dealing with one set of children.

I do not agree. I babysit in my home, and I purell before and after each diaper change and I only have 1 here in diapers.
To ask you for gloves... I her! Its not "immature"... its for her own health and the health of the family.

I didn't mean that I think practicing basic hygiene is immature- I think being a nanny and skeeving baby poop is. I actually wash my hands with soap and hot water each time I change my own kids and I would expect any nanny to do the same. I would not however appreciate the nanny whipping out a haz-mat suit as if my kids were radioactive...

I watched two kids in my home and I ALWAYS wore gloves for diaper changes and NOT because I was skeeved by poop. To me it's just sanitary and it's for the kids protection as much as my own. I've worked in day care centers too and I've NEVER been at one that doesn't require gloves for diaper changes. It's pretty common practice.
ETA - I wouldn't be offended by it, if anything I would be happy she's trying to be a little more sanitary. Can't hurt in the end.

I believe you that it may be common since you're in that industry- although I have never seen a child at the park, in the mall, in a restaurant bathroom etc. being changed with gloves on.
I guess all that really matters (also why I said IMO) is that I would personally dislike a nanny that needed gloves to change my kids' diapers as (again IMO) a wash with hot water and soap is sufficient to eliminate bacteria/germs.
Do you guys change your own kids with gloves for sanitary reasons?

No, I don't use gloves with my own DD but she's my daughter, I would never think to use anything with her.
But for me with other kids, and maybe it's because of my own history in education and day care, I just automatically started using gloves and didn't think anything of it. It just seemed like the obvious, normal thing to do but again, it was what I was use to when taking care of other people's children.
Again, I *personally* can't see being upset by it. Who knows what reasons people have for doing the things they do. I wouldn't take it as an insult that a nanny wore gloves but that's just me. You wouldn't be offended if a doctor came in to examine you and put gloves on right? It doesn't mean you're dirty or gross, it's just more sanitary for the person who has to touch you. Like I said, in my case, it was just something I was use to doing and I didn't think twice about it.
