Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
I am so frustrated with myself!!!! Almost every day I drive myself nuts thinking I forgot to shut something off but TODAY, i'm almost certain that I forgot to shut off my Hair Straightener and DH is traveling on business so I can't ask him to sneak home and check!!!!
It's a CHI straightener, anyone have this? Will it burn my house down?? Should I leave???? LOL I'm making myself crazy.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
omg I am the queen of this. I dont have this hair straightner but I am a stove/iron/blowdryer person ......
It becomes such a routine you almost always turn the item off but you forget that you did......that being said I would still probably leave. Just to stop myself from going nuts
But for the future I find that it helps when I unplug an item - or turm off the stove. I say outloud and loudly to myself " I am unplugging the iron - I am turning off the oven". It kind of then clicks in my brain that it was done. But the downside I sound like a crazy person and DH is like "what did I get myself into"?
another trick I figured out that is if I call mt ans mach (not vm) and it picks up then my house is not up in flames yet. because a melted ans mach would most likely not pick up.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
I can't even tell you the number of times I have turned around on the way to work to check if I turned it off. DH travels quite a bit, so I'm usually alone during the week getting ready for work.
I have, like another poster suggested, started saying out lout "I un-plugged the straightener" This way, when I panic about halfway to work at my usual spot (IDK why I always think of it at this particular spot, but I do) I will remind myself that I did, in fact, un-plug it.
I know exactly what you are talking about with the worrying!

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
I leave it on ALL the time too, but my problem is I never realize it's on until the next morning.
Now I have a vanity that has an outlet and light, so when I turn off the light switch, it turns off whatever is plugged into the outlet. That has been my saving grace lately.
I just recently went on a cruise and left the hair iron on for hours while we were gone. I could have burned down the ship! Also the room steward came into clean while we were gone - I'm surprised she didn't accidentally burn herself on it.

Some of these products have an automatic shut off. I am constantly driving myself crazy thinking I forgot to unplug the many items I use in the Am!

I constantly drive myself crazy with this What I started to do was plug it in a different spot so that I have to walk past it before I leave and I know it’s still plugged in.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
I'm a maniac with forgetting to turn things off. It makes me crazy. I've left my hair straightener on before and it did not damage anything at all, but I've learned my lesson anyway just from the stress of it. lol.
I've also left the oven on once like all day. What a loser!!! And the stove too, since there's no flame. It's happened, but I've learned to be more aware.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
Every morning i have to make a real effort to focus on when i turn it off, so when i'm on the train i don't start to panic that i left it on. I think back to the image of myself turning it off. However, there have been times when i turn around and do it, or imagine the house going up in flames.
I've considered doing an experiment to leave it on for an hour and see if it turns itself off - so for those times when i'm freaking out trying to remember, i'll know that it turns itself off anyway.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
I was doing this to myself way too much, worrying all day until I finally got home to see my house still standing. Finally I incorporated making sure I turned it off into my daily schedule before I go to work! lol So now it's a habit for me to check before I leave.

Re: Forgetting to shut off a Hair Straightener???
i was doing this for a while last year... haven't done it since. I started putting a post-it on my front door so that when I went to leave for work, I'd see the note to shut off appliances!
