FP newborn rock n play sleeper

DD loves to sleep in it, last night she was ultra gassy and it was the only place she was comfortable in, she also sleeps in it most of the day. I was just reading a bunch of things online about kids sleeping in it a lot and later on being diagnosed with torticollis. Anyone hear about this link? I don't want to get her used to it and then have a problem later on. I was wondering if I do have her in it to put a receiving blanket on one side and alternate her neck sides?

Re: FP newborn rock n play sleeper

I called FP and asked about using something in it or under the fabric and they told me ABSOLUTELY NOT because it's a suffocation hazard. So I never did.

DD is 6 months old now and we are having some difficulty transitioning her OUT of the nb rock n play sleeper to sleep because she is SO used to being in that nice cuddly, angled space.

She has zero problems with her head shape, neck, movement, etc. So that never happened to us. I only put her in it for naps and sleeping. I don't leave her in it during the day for anything else. I don't know if that makes any difference.

We did get her to sleep in the pnp (flat) for 3 hours the other night, but then she had her shots and we just wanted her to get a few good nights sleep so she's been back in the sleeper again. We love it, but since she's starting to pull forward, we know we have to get her out of it soon.

Anyway, that's my concern, not the muscle development. So I just wanted to let you know.

I think as long as you do plenty of tummy time, it's fine. I only have my DD to compare, but she slept in it for 3 months (nighttime and naps) and she had no more of a flat head than DS did sleeping in the crib.

Re: FP newborn rock n play sleeper

thanks everyone..it's the first week she's home so she's basically just sleeping so she's been in it a lot and last night she was so gassy and didn't want to sleep in her bassinet and slept in that and then I started reading all these things...I haven't started tummy time with her yet, but am going to start putting her in different things and tummy time this week sometime

Used it with no problems.. people have been using bouncy seats, swings, carseats, etc. forever with no problems and the FB sleeper is the same angle.

Re: FP newborn rock n play sleeper

We had it and loved it at first. DS slept in it at nights for 5 months. Then I started noticing that the back of his head was getting flat so we took him out of the infant car seat, less time in the swing and tried to get him out of the rock and play and into the crib and he refused! He was really gassy until 6 months so the rock and play was amazing for that but he got so used to being snuggled on either side by the sleeper that he hated the crib and the second his back hit the crib he woke up screaming. This is still occurring at 10.5 months! Needless to say he is sleeping with us. Also, DS gets really sweaty in his sleep. Even in the winter he did. We would take the top piece off everyone once in awhile to wash it and the one time that we did there was mold between the top and bottom pieces and you can't take the bottom piece off and wash it because it has that hard piece in it. I was going to use bleach but I didn't think I'd be able to get all the bleach out of the fabric and didn't want DS sleeping on bleach. My sister had the same problem and I googled it and it turns out a lot of other people had mold on theirs too. It's not from DS wetting through the diaper either, he has an issue where he hates being wet so when he pees once he wakes up instantly and screams so it was only the sweat.

I did love it though. Our house is tiny so it was great having it in our room instead of a PNP or bassinet because we could fold it up and put it away easily. Also, when he was a newborn and slept all the time I would bring it into the living room and have him sleep in there with me. I could move it around the house with me with him in it and he wouldn't wake at all.
