crashing....Fisher Price Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper-flat spots?

Crashing....I am 36 wks and have been torn about getting this item. It has amazing reviews on BRU but I was reading quite a few reviews on Amazon about babies getting major flat spots and neck issues from this. I know that all babies could get these problems from swing/bouncer seat overuse, but I was planning on using this sleeper in place of a bassinet in our room, so she would be spending a lot of time in it.

Thoughts???Experiences??

TIA!

I actually thought it was too soft to keep DS sleeping in permanently. I use it for travel.

We don't have any flat spots... and he sleeps in a hard crib, but I hold him a LOT.

I loved ours! But ds didnt sleep in it freqyrntly. We used it a lot when we were out. It was great to bring to parties or to our parebts houses- he never had a problem sleeping if we brought that!

Re: crashing....Fisher Price Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper-flat spots?

My DS did get a little flat spot from it, but it's correcting itself now that he sits up on his own. It was probably a combination of that, the swing, the bouncy and carseat. The only time the back of his head is against something now is when he's sleeping or in the carseat. I folded up 2 receiving blankets to use as padding because there is like NO padding in that thing. If you do get it I would use the noggin nest.

My only real issue with the FP Sleeper is the transition to the crib is difficult. My suggestion is to use the crib for naps and the sleeper at night. I've found it's kind of like breaking the swaddle because they're sort of snuggled in the sleeper. My DS had a hard time learning to sleep with all of the extra room.

Re: crashing....Fisher Price Newborn Rock 'n Play Sleeper-flat spots?

That thing was instrumental for my DS in the first few months, we had an expensive co-sleeper and ended up really only using the rock n play sleeper! I got two, one for my house, one for my parents. So he was in it a ton. I did think it was way too hard so when he was very tiny and not moving at all I folded a blanket up and put it just under his head for some padding.

At one point I did notice a flat spot so I started shifting his positions every night and had him slightly turned to kind of round out the spot, lol. It worked! Now he is in his crib (6 months) and on his belly mostly so his head has gone completely back to normal.

I wouldn't let that deter you from getting it though, just be conscious of looking out for a flat spot. A ton of babies get them and most of their heads round out. I also recommend a tight swaddle in that when they are tiny, my DS slept SOO much better after we did that.

HTH Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks everyone...I think I will get it and just monitor her head for flat spots. I like the idea of using it at night and then using the crib for naps.

Thanks also for the suggestion for transitioning into the crib! I can see that could be tough!

with ANY place they sleep, they run the risk or getting a flat spot - it comes with the territory of the "back to sleep" campaign

we always positioned DS on his side in the sleep and play rocker when he was VERY little. it was never a problem. they also sell little noggin nests you can use in the swing/bouncer/sleepers Chat Icon
