Freaking out a bit but I know there is nothing I can do about it now!
I guess this is just really a vent. I am so careful about what I eat all the time but now especially since being pregnant. I am vegetarian but eat fish and I carefully watch the amount and what type of fish I eat due to the mercury level. Well we went out to dinner on Saturday and I had Chilian Sea Bass - I have a list in my wallet that tells me the mercury levels and what is safe to eat and I always check before I order something. Well (and here is the dumb part) I must have wrote the sea bass on my list in the wrong section because on a thread that was just posted it had a link to the fish and I looked at it and it said the sea bass was medium to high mercury! I was trying to avoid all fish that was in any other section except the low mercury category! Now I am freaking out and feeling really guilty that I may have done something to harm the baby!!! I am so mad at myself for such a stupid mistake. And we all know that restaurant portions are really big. I am just glad I didnt finish the entire dish and I didnt have them wrap it up but still Thanks for letting me vent!

I would just avoid anything high or medium level mercury for a while now. I try to limit tuna to once a month but last month I had 2 sandwiches so I am skipping this month.
I feel like with mercury it's a cumulative effect so just avoid it for a while now and you should be fine!

I agree with this. I really don't think one piece of Sea Bass is going to do any harm
When I was PG with DS, I misunderstood that you could have tuna every once in a while and thought that applied to tuna steaks as well as canned. I had them on a couple of occasions and DS is fine

Speaking of which- my SIL told me a story about her first pregnancy- 11 years ago. She had no idea about the tuna restrictions- the dr never mentioned it and there was no LIF back then for all this great advice .
She said all she craved was tuna and ate it almost every day.
One day she was eating a tuna sandwich at work and someone scolded her- saying you aren't supposed to be eating so much tuna! She was like I had no idea.
So she stopped after that - but she had been eating it non stop up until then.
Her baby was fine, healthy, and one of the smartest children I have ever met - spoke early, read early, great student now, etc.
So don't worry too too much- everything will be ok!

Re: Freaking out a bit but I know there is nothing I can do about it now!
Thank you for all the wonderful advice and I knew I would feel a little bit better about it if I just vented on here. I dont really eat fish too often lately since I dont really cook it and only really ate it when we went out to dinner and that has drastically cut back so we can save money for the baby. So, the last time I had fish before this was on Christmas eve! I will just not eat it again for awhile and I have a doctors appointment tomorrow so I will talk to her about it then. Thank you again!!

one piece of sea bass isn't going to do anything...its mass quantities that you have to worry about...just try to avoid anything high or medium for a little while...no worries!
edit...ALSO... high mercury fish can be eaten just not more then once a month...see this link from the APA
