Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
My boss just called and left me a voicemail (I was on my landline) firing me
He fired me because he had given me a money order to send out the day before my doctor took me out of work, I put it in my desk for safe keeping and forgot to mention it to my co worker to send it out. It was his personal matter and I put it there for safe keeping.
Oh man. Ok. This will be ok, right? We will be ok, even though I am 38 weeks pregnant?
Man. Why can't things be easy?

Was the money order for business or personal?
You can't be fired for taking care of a personal matter for him.

Re: Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
First off
I would first relax, calm yourself and get your head together. I would then pick up the phone and call him, apologizing profusely. Tell him it was an oversight on your part and how bad you feel. Technically if it was something personal, not so sure he can fire you (esp. if its a big corporation).
I've been there myself....years ago I was working at a major sports organization & sent out impt. POP merchandise for a huge trade show 2nd day instead of overnight & so we had no display for our huge booth until the 2nd day of the show...my bosses were definitely NOT pleased to say the least. I got a written warning.
Right now your concern is your growing baby, don't let this get the better of you. Whatever happens is for a reason.

That seems a little harsh for such an honest mistake! But you know what, everything happens for a reason-- it just means that a much better opportunity is coming your way!!!!!

Re: Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
You can't be fired for forgetting to take care of his personal business especially if you are an employee of the company. You were hired, I'm sure, to take care of company business, not be his personal lacky. I would fight them on it personally. Unless you were not planning to go back after your maternity leave. Then I would collect unemployment and be happy I didn't have to work for a pr ick anymore. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Re: Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
Wow, that was an aweful thing for your boss to do. If he fired you for not taking care of his personal business I think you can have a lawsuit. Sounds like he was just firing the pregnant lady, which he can't legally do. You might want to bring this to his attention, allowing you some extra time to find a new job
Whatever happens, you will be fine. Worry about your baby and you. Good luck

Re: Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
Save the VM...take it to a lawyer....sue is nasty a$$.
What a pr!ck. He cannot fire you without written warning first unless you break the law. He cannot fire you for something not business related. HE is TOTALLY screwed IMO for doing this while you are PG & out on FLMA.

Re: Ok. Freaking out just a bit....
I'm so sorry File for unemployment tomrorow, it will get you through the pregnancy and then you can find a new job.
Unfortunately a lot of the above posters are incorrect unless you had a good contract. Without one, you are an at will employee who can legally be fired for any reason, or no reason at all. It is true that he cannot fire you simply b/c you're pregnant, but unless you have serious proof of that I wouldn't bother going down that road.
Focus on the baby and everything will work itself out when you're ready to go back to work. Someone above said you worked for lawyers....trust me, there are a lot of us lawyers and a lot of firms are frequently hiring.
