Free standing range or slide in?
DH and I are debating on what type to get.
The free-standings are much cheaper but the slide-ins look much better.
What did you have and do you like it? Why? Pros/cons of each?
TIA!

Re: Free standing range or slide in?
we are in the process of getting a new one now- we are going with the free standing because that is what is already there- and it just works better with the type of wall we have behind it- i also like how the knobs are up high and not lower so kids cant accidentally grab onto them... i think it really depends if you want that extra piece sticking up in the back or not...

Slide in. I wanted a seamless look with the granite.
Here's a pic when it was first installed, before paint and backsplash. Image Attachment(s):

Slide in hands down. Especially if you plan on doing a nice tile mosaic piece above it

We have a slide in. I think it's the same as Tahweezah's:
Don't mind the countertop missing a piece, it was replaced. We are eventually going to get new ones anyway!

Re: Free standing range or slide in?
I like the slide-in because of the look. DH refuses to get a slide-in and wants freestanding so that there is something to block any spills or overflow from going behind the range.
Typically, you only need a freestanding range if one side will be exposed (not covered by a wall or cabinet) because the sides are finished. The slide-ins generally don't have finished sides since they will be covered. This is what the appliance guys told me anyway.

Re: Free standing range or slide in?
I always had the stovetop built in, so when we decided to get a range I wanted the slide in to keep the look. Ours is gas though - so it doesn't have that seemless look.

This is correct. The only difference is the finished sides. If your sliding a free standing range between the counters then what's the point?
About $500 in savings. At least with Whirlpool gold.
Slide-ins look soo much better. But I am trying to come up with other reasons why to convince DH.
