Friends Who Brag?
Not sure where to post this, but I figured here would work. A couple of friends of mine and dh called tonight and invited us over for dinner this weekend. My dh said we would most likely go and we would let them know at the end of the week. The thing is they brag about everything in their lives... their home, car, vacations, anything they can come up with to make them look important. I really don't want to go, but dh sort of still likes them. Do you have "friends" like this and how do you deal?

Yeah, I think we all do. I really stay away as much as I can because I can't afford to be fake w/ them. They are both like that dh & the wife. JUST ZIP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband has work friends like this!! It annoys the crap out of me. They are always lecturing us on how to buy a house, expensive cars, etc. The funny thing is my husbands co-worker's FI is on LIW and she does know that I know her name and that I am on there. I always see post by her saying that she worried about her bills for these expenses and the wedding. Yet every month they have something new and its top of the line!!

But i actually have a friend of a friend who once in a while we hang out with who like to pretend they are the sh!t. But all of us know the truth...And in the end they look silly

I have friends who occasionally brag. I think they think it is normal conversation to do this...I just take it for what it is...I let it roll off my back mostly.

We do! It is DH's good friend and his wife. They brag about how much money they have all the time! It irratates both of us but DH is better are ignoring it. We just yes them to death and change the subject.

Not so much friends as people at work who like to play the "one up game". That no matter what you do or have they have it and they have to one up you and do it better. I can't stand it, it drives me crazy. Why can't people just be happy with what they have?!

i have one. she tells me the her mil only takes her to really expensive restaurants. all she has to say a really nice restaurant. why put money on everything

I'm lucky that I don't have any friends who do this. We all brag about good and wonderful things that happen in life to share with each other, but once it is shared, that is where it ends.

Not only the braggers but the "one uppers"! 
I fond that most of the time people that do that are just jealous of what ever the other person has so they need to brag or "one-up" to make them feel better about themselves.
It really is very sad actually.

I was just telling Dh the other night about our firends and how much I cant take the bragging its just so annoying to be around. I mean if something happened to them good that they wanted to share Im all ears but to keep going on and on about it is so annoying to me.

i think we all have friends like this. i just listen but not really listen. i feel bad for people like this because i think deep down they are very insecure and feel the need to project a "my life is perfect" type of image to protect their true identity.

Dh has a friends like this...the friend basically goes out and buys the most expensive of everything...but my wise a$$ remark to him now is...$$$ doesn't mean its the best. I then I point how that consumer reports actually rated the product he bought poorly. Ots my own sweet revenge

Exactly, my thoughts!!
I have a friend like this and although she gets on my nerves when she does this, I still feel bad for her. One of her quotes about Marriage is ....." I would rather be alone then alone in a Marriage" So of course, I had to step up and mention, that I absolutely love being married and I wouldn't change it for the world!

I have to agree with this- beware of people who act like there lives are perfect
I used to compare myself to one freind- and then one day I realized that I couldn't compare what she was telling me to my real life- b/c she wasn't telling me the whole story- ( but she reveleved some stuff when she was drunk one night)
I try to be honest - espeically with my little sister who looks up to us- I tell her when my hubby had a bad month at work- we don't hide it- bad months happend just like good months do- and I want her to understand that for her own life

I think I hate the one uping the most. If I have good news to share, then they have 20 other great things about their life they have to talk about. Really, I don't know why we even talk to them anymore.
