Front loading washing Machine- Does your smell?

My husband and I are renting a house and it had both front loading washer and dryer.

First, I noticed the dryer was taking a year to dry cloths. I took the sucker apart and cleaned all the lint out within an inch of its life.

But I always noticed that the washer had a sorta moldy-ish smell.

So what I ahve been doing is leaving the door slightly open after a wash. That gives the machine time to dry. Ever since doing that I ahve had NO problems.

Anyone else have this kind of problem??

We haven't had this problem but it's very common in front loading machines. You need to keep the door open after using the machine until it is completely dry. In addition, about once a month, I run an empty cycle on HOT with either the Tide washing machine cleaner product or plain bleach.

I notice as long as i run the machine once every 2 months or so with either clorox and HOT water or go out and buy Affresh you should be alright!

Tide makes a cleaner now as well.

We do it like 2/3 times a month.

We had this problem .I dry up any excess water left inside the rubber part surrounding the door. Lift whatever rubber you can & dry it with a paper towel & then leave the door open as well.

I also have to leave the doors open. If we close them, yes the smell is horrible.

We always leave it open. Only close it to do a load.

I always leave the door open and I clean it with vinegar. Make sure to run a cycle after the vinegar to get the smell out. I also clean the seal with vinegar and that little drawer before I so the second rinse. I have hard water so this works best for me. I don't use bleach b/c I can't find it here. Chat Icon

Re: Front loading washing Machine- Does your smell?

DH bought me a front loader washing machine for mother's day and my neighbor told me to always make sure that i dry the door and door frame with a towel and to leave the door ajar so that it dries. I do this every time and have never had a problem. It works. (and we keep it in the garage where i would think it's more likely to get musty)
