Re: frosting
This is a buttercream, but it's my favorite!!! It's vanilla bean buttercream and tastes exactly like Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream. The vanilla beans are a little pricey and sometimes hard to find (though I've always found them in Stop n Shop, but not all locations carry them) but it's so worth it.

This recipe is actually from my blog. This icing tastes exactly like the cream inside of an Oreo cookie. Soooooo yummy!

That's awesome!!! My mom and I have been meaning to try our hand at making our own vanilla, too. Any tips or tricks or a recipe you could share? I've heard it's not too difficult.

so easy. i believe we cut the beans open and just soak them in vodka. the best part is we just top it off with vodka when it starts to get low and keep using. We have never changed the beans. Amazing. And you need a good container. We got this one from bodum, it has a great lid on it (the link is at the bottom)

Re: frosting
I know it's amazing how much it costs in the store. A few beans and liquor you probably already have at home and you have it forever.
