Fun news and not so fun news (Level II)...
Fun news is we're having a
Not so fun news is that there are only 2 vessels in the umbilical cord, not 3 and I have to go for a fetal echo and more growth monitoring for the rest of the pregnancy. Apparently this occurs in 1% of pregnancies.

I don't know the consequesnces of two vessels in the umbilical cord, but I do hope it's something that will be okay with monitoring.

Congrats on your !
My friend is dealing with a similar situation right now- except her umb cord only has 1 vessel. So far, the baby is fine- and is measuring ahead a little. Her doctor assured her that it happens, but alot of times with monitoring, everything turns out to be fine.

Re: Fun news and not so fun news (Level II)...
thanks for the positive stories. i've been reading up on it on the internet and it sounds scary to me. my OB/GYN told me she's not concerned -- that there are no obvious signs of abnormalities.
the fetal echo should rule out any heart defects.
uggh. my OB also said that girls are stronger than boys and that should help

Congrats on your girl !!!
Sorry for the other news. Just remember not to hesitate to ask your doctor any questions you have about the situation. This is what I am learning from talking to so many people about some of the pregnancy issues they have had.

But the good news is that your Drs are aware of the condition and can monitor it & take steps to keep your baby healthy!

BUMPING with an update:
had a growth sonogram on tuesday and the baby's growth is great -- at 29 weeks she's measuring 3 lbs. 10 oz. and the doctor isn't concerned at all.
i am very relieved.

Such great news. And btw, girls do tend to be stronger than boys when there are complications involved.
