Fundraising...
Has anyone on here ever done fundraising? I was considering making a design up honoring my MIL and my favorite teacher of all time who are both breast cancer survivors. I wanted to sell the designs on a few select items, as well as some other "pink" based designs and donate the profits to a breast cancer society- either LI based or a national society. I had thought about approaching some businesses as I don't know nearly enough people to make this profitable, but wanted to get your tips/advice before I go thru all the work involved and then find a red flag somewhere. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I also don't have the funds to chair an event or the space to do an event in my home so I thought the flyers with order forms might be the best way to go- and then have a day dedicated to each area to bring that areas orders and have them pick them up from me say at a school or wheverever that's centrally located for them. TIA!!!

Re: Fundraising...
My friend made Breast Cancer bracelets and sold them at the walks...she sold a ton of them that way.
ETA: My friend donated the money to the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Breast Cancer Network of LI
It may be harder to get stores to sell them unless you go to very small, select stores. A lot of larger stores don't want to have to keep seperate $$$ for fundraising stuff.
Good luck!

Thanks Gerty- I was thinking with the stores about giving them a glass to use as a sample and then having people place orders using the order forms that would be with them. I don't know how it would work though.

Re: Fundraising...
First i want to say what a generous thing you are doing! second: Do you have a place where you are going to have the fundraiser? My sister's friend had a fundraiser for her brother at a elks lodge or you can even look into reception halls.. You can go to walmart, target, restraunts, spa's,Home depot, best buy, bed bath beyond..Etc to see if they will donate some gift cards, or maybe someone can make a homemade blanket and you can donate it, or even 50/50 they are good for a fundraiser, just a few idea's to throw at you... Goodluck and I hope i helped you!

Re: Fundraising...
What kind of things are you planning to sell? and what kind of price point are you thinking?
My instinct is saying it would be better to have a certain number of items available to sell. Most people are happy to make donations for good causes but it also has to be easy - placing orders and arranging meets may not really work.
If they are something small and inexpensive you could probably speak to neighborhood businesses about displaying your goods and collecting payment. You could put information about your cause and contact info for other items on a tag or sticker - maybe set up a group on yahoo or something similar that would allow you to post pictures of your other items.
Maybe you could contact churchs and schools in the area that are having events and set up a table there? You should have samples and available stock to sell on sight with the option to place an order.
Or, what about contacting the breast cancer society or Susan G Komen organization (or similar) about how things you design could benefit the charity.
Try putting some things on craig's list to get your name and talent out there.
Good luck! Good for you for wanting to make a difference.

Re: Fundraising...
I don't know much. But the company I work for decided to do a Breast Cancer Donation based on particular items sold.
And before they could do anything they had to get all promotional materials as well as items being sold approved by the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
I think you have to get approval by the foundation you plan on submitting the donation to because you using their name/trademark and they need to verify you will be representing them in a way they see fit.
