They can shear the sheep for the wool without killing it. Sheepskin means they're dead.

Re: Fur-Spinoff
since it is the actual sheepskin on the outside of the boot, I am not sure. I think it is worse then lets say, owning a wool sweater...right?

Re: Fur-Spinoff
Uggs are sheep skin with a think the wool-ish lining inside. i think for that you do have to kill the sheep=- but it's akin to leather.

I own tons of leather...It's hard not to! I feel horribly about how animals are treated, but it is difficult to find shoes and boots with no leather.

It's actually not that hard - 9West, Kenneth Cole's Reaction line, Aerosoles, Steve Madden - they all have leather alternatives. It's definetly more time consuming though - and it's easy to get fooled. The alternatives these days look and feel a lot like leather and suede.

It's also complicated for me - if I buy some of these brands, my money is going to support companies that don't pay living wages. You buy according to beliefs about animal rights, but other people take other things just as seriously. I just don't think any of these issues are quite so black and white. JMO.

I wasn't making it black and white nor was I looking to. I just listed the more "popular" companies.
I agree - people *should* buy according to beliefs. I posted that b/c SHE wrote that she feels horribly about how the animals are treated...SHE made no mention of wages.
Instead of making a blanket statement - and sinc eyou wrote "some" - why don't you just post the companies that don't support living wages so everyone is made aware. JMO.

Re: Fur-Spinoff
I have a fur jacket. DH saw JLo wearing one and got me one just like it. It's too short for me so I can't wear it. I want to see if I can trade it in for something else.
