Fussy times? newborn question

Hi,

My almost 6 week old DD is so very fussy at around 5:45pm. Swinging her in our arms seems to help, but it is very frustrating b/c I feel like no one will want to watch her b/c she is so cranky at this time and it lasts for awhile. If she falls asleep in our arms and we try to put her down she wakes up.

What else helps prevent/stop fussy times? Does this go away at some age?

Many newborns have a "witching hour"..they fuss at a certain time everynight..DS and DD did that..For DS at 6:00 ON THE DOT he would strat to cry and nothing we did with console him..For DD it was 6:30...The GOOD thing is that it doesnt last...The first 3 months are the hardest. The babies are adjusting to the world. Please don't think it will last forever...it gets SOOO much better and TRUST me...people will want to watch DC!

I remember DS having a fussy time in the evening. We even mentioned he had a fussy time and the dr said 'Must be in the evening huh?' We looked at her like she was the most amazing psychic ever. She laughed and said 'most kids have it in the evening the first few months'

I don't remember when it got better. Chat Icon

My son was the same. He outgrew it for the most part but on some days he can still get a little cranky at that time. He's 8 months old now.

Hang in there, it gets much much better. Most babies are like this and I think most them outgrow it by about 12 weeks.

It goes away. Chances are you'll just have to wait it out. DD was like that from about 3 weeks till about 3 months. It lasted from about 4/5 pm to 11 pm. Yeah, those were fun days. Chat Icon

The 5 S's were the closest thing to a lifesaver for us. They are from The Happiest Baby on the Block. If I recall correctly, they are:
1. Swaddle
2. Side
3. Shush (white noise)
4. Sway/Swing (slight jiggle of the head)
5. Suck (pacifier)

It WILL pass! Chat Icon

Thank you, you made me feel so much better! I just want to do what's right for her and don't want to get frustrated each night as the clock gets closer to 5:45!

Invest in a white noise machine. It did wonders for us!

As the PP stated though, it won't last forever but still you want to make it was bearable as possible.

I think my library may have this DVD, that is where I got the book. Much faster than shipping

Re: Fussy times? newborn question

Dinner time was always "the witching hour" for Jordan and now with Peyton too. I have heard this a lot from my friends too. I think all kids have a cranky time of day. It does get better over time.

Re: Fussy times? newborn question

White noise worked very well for us...in addition to the remaining 4 S's. From what I've read, it's gas (diligent burping helps)...and your baby will outgrow the "witching hour". Hang in there!
