Re: FYI - Lice are around
Ugh, it went around DS's class 2 years ago... apparently the child would be sent home, then sent back in still having them, over and over again. It went on for WEEKS... Thank God DS didn't get it, but he was one of the only ones.
Does anyone remember from the book, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, how the mom combs Francies hair with kerosene and makes her wear garlic around her neck to prevent against lice? Maybe that's what we'll have to do!!

Re: FYI - Lice are around
Ok now I'm itchy.
I'm a huge fan of the Rosemary Repel from Fairy Tales: http://www.fairytaleshaircare.com/
One of my sister's families had a huge outbreak. She spent THOUSANDS to get her family cleared up. I heard it was awful. The women who run the company told her one of the hot spots to get lice is the movie theater.

Re: FYI - Lice are around
I work in a very affluent school district - we get lice EVERY year! Multiple cases in a small school.
1. you will be itchy at the nape of your neck and ears (b/c of course reading this, I'm ithcing - but at least it's the top of my head! LOL)
2. girls - ponytails! hair back. As soon as we have a case, my hair goes back. We tell the students in the specific class, but we also tell the students in any sibling's class.
3. We have kids put their coats in their backpack, but if it doesn't fit, they go in a plastic bag. Ask your school if they have a policy like this.

I sent her the website, we've been using it for a few years after you suggested it and so far (knock on wood) we haven't had any.

Guys,
Use olive oil shampoo or shampoo with coconut on your kids.. the lice do NOT like it and it'll help tremendously!

Another good lice deterrant is to rinse hair with white vinegar after washing it. Lice hate the smell. I do this (and tell my students' parents to do it to their kids) every time my school has a lice issue and I've never had a case of it in my classroom.

good to know - I just thought that I would buzz my boys if they ever got them - but it would break my heart cutting their hair!

I smell vaguely like an Easter egg for a few hours, but it's not strong enough to bother me.
And hairspray is a great deterrant and hair gel too!

Re: FYI - Lice are around
Lice are drawn to clean hair so putting the hairspray and gel somewhat makes your child's hair "dirty".
